Date: April 15, 2025
Munich, Germany - Komatsu Ltd., a construction and mining equipment manufacturer, will debut its next-generation PC220LCi-12 hydraulic excavator at Bauma 2025 in Munich, Germany. The European version of Japan’s recently launched PC200i-12, this 1.2 m³ bucket-class excavator features advanced ICT and the latest intelligent machine control technology. Komatsu will showcase the machine in action and highlight its cutting-edge ICT innovations at the show.
The PC220LCi-12 comes equipped with cutting-edge ICT features designed to boost efficiency and accuracy on construction sites. Using sensors and GNSS antennas, the system displays the bucket edge position alongside 3D design data on the in-cab monitor, reducing the need for staking, surveying, and spotters. It also supports operators by automatically adjusting excavation movements to follow design specs, enabling precise work regardless of skill level. Additionally, real-time load data for both the bucket and dump truck is displayed, helping operators manage payloads more effectively during operation.
The PC220LCi-12 integrates seamlessly with Komatsu’s Smart Construction suite to boost site productivity. Standard Smart Construction Remote enables remote file transfers and troubleshooting, reducing site visits. Optional features include the Smart Construction Dashboard for end-to-end project analysis and Smart Construction Fleet, which offers real-time tracking, proximity alerts, and performance data for all onsite vehicles.
The PC220LCi-12 introduces key upgrades in efficiency, safety, and operator comfort. Its automatic swing control enhances precision and efficiency during loading operations onto dump trucks. An industry-first feature, 3D geofencing, helps prevent accidental contact with overhead power lines or underground utilities by automatically restricting machine movement without the need for manual input. Additionally, the excavator features a newly designed wide cab that offers 30% more legroom than previous models, significantly improving operator comfort during long hours of operation.
