Spelle, Germany - Bernard Krone Holding SE & Co. KG., an agricultural equipment manufacturer, has introduced the Big X 860, a new addition to its wide-bodied forage harvester lineup, replacing a popular model in the series. Despite offering slightly less horsepower than its predecessor, the new harvester brings a major update under the hood.
The Big X 860 is powered by a new Liebherr 18L straight-six engine, delivering 843hp and 4,000 N·m of torque at 1,300rpm. Krone highlights the engine’s fuel efficiency, enhanced by its PowerSplit technology, which allows operators to adjust performance based on crop weight and driving conditions. The harvester can also switch automatically between power ranges or operate in full X-Power mode when maximum output is required.
Krone says the Big X 860 reduces operating costs further with an extended oil change interval of 1,000 engine hours or every two years. While official specifications are yet to be released, the new engine is reportedly lighter than the V8 in lower-powered models and 387kg lighter than the V12 used in larger harvesters.
The machine’s VariStream design, featuring spring-loaded floors beneath the chopping drum and behind the discharge accelerator, helps maintain smooth operation even with uneven crop feed. The Big X 860 is compatible with Krone’s range of harvesting headers, including EasyCollect and XCollect for maize, EasyFlow for grass, and XDisc for whole crops.
