Bremen, Germany - Mercedes-Benz AG, a manufacturer of luxury passenger cars and premium vans, is successfully increasing production of the new electric GLC at its Bremen plant, following the model’s world premiere in September 2025. This highlights Bremen’s strong manufacturing capability, flexible production system, and important role in Mercedes-Benz’s global network for core vehicle models.

The GLC has been one of Mercedes-Benz’s best-selling models for many years. With the launch of the all-electric version, the company is taking a major step in its biggest product expansion strategy. The new electric GLC brings fresh design, advanced electric drive technology, the MB.OS operating system, and strong performance. Customer demand has also been very positive, with the model receiving more orders in its first three months than any other Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle in the company’s history.

Mr. Michael Schiebe, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, responsible for Production, Quality & Supply Chain Management, said “Our colleagues in Bremen have once again delivered a successful performance. With the ramp-up of the new electric GLC, they are mastering a complex integration into ongoing production with the utmost professionalism – thanks to our consistent digital transformation. This strengthens Bremen’s role as a center of excellence for core segment models and once again sets new standards in automotive engineering.”

The new electric GLC is being built in Hall 9 at the Mercedes-Benz Bremen plant. It is produced on the same assembly line as the combustion-engine GLC, hybrid GLC models, and the EQE, showing the plant’s ability to handle different powertrain options flexibly. Hall 9 is the largest production hall at the site and has been running in three shifts for more than ten years.

The Bremen plant is also an important location for Mercedes-Benz’s electric vehicle production. In 2019, it became the first Mercedes-Benz plant to integrate an EV, the EQC, into regular mass production. Since then, the plant has produced vehicles across combustion, hybrid, and electric technologies. With the new electric GLC, Bremen is now manufacturing its third fully electric series model.

Mr. Michael Frieß, Plant Manager and Head of Production at the Mercedes-Benz Bremen plant, said “In 2019, we were the first plant to integrate an electric vehicle into ongoing series production. Plug-in hybrids and fully electric models are now an integral part of our product portfolio. All of this – including the successful launch of the new GLC – is thanks to our employees, who tackle the most complex tasks with great dedication and commitment – every day, every shift.”

The new electric GLC uses powertrain components from Mercedes-Benz’s integrated production network. ACCUMOTIVE in Kamenz supplies the latest 800-volt batteries, enabling fast charging and up to 715 km WLTP range. The electric drive units come from Sebeș, Romania, while the Hamburg plant supplies electric axles and key powertrain parts for the model.

Michael Peters, Chairman of the Works Council of the Mercedes-Benz Bremen Plant, said “With the start of GLC production, we have not only made a successful start to the year, but also taken a first and very important step into the future of our plant. The GLC represents the new face of our brand. We are delighted to be able to build this forward-looking model here in Bremen, thus expanding our product family with another vehicle. Together with all our colleagues, we look forward to another outstanding example of vehicles ‘Made in Bremen’!”

Mayor Andreas Bovenschulte, President of the Senate of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen, said “Bremen and Mercedes-Benz have been a success story for 50 years. More than 10,000 employees, more than ten million vehicles built – what impressive figures! I am certain that this era will continue seamlessly with the electric GLC. Congratulations to the employees and the company. Here’s to the next 50 years together.”
