Leinfelden-Echterdingen/Brussels- Daimler Buses GmbH., has unveiled the series-production Mercedes-Benz eIntouro, its first battery-electric intercity bus, at Busworld Europe in Brussels. With up to two battery packs providing 414 kWh total capacity, the eIntouro can achieve up to 500 km on a single charge (range depends on driving style, terrain and weather). That makes it suitable for school, intercity and works services as well as excursions and short trips. Orders open spring 2025, with first customer deliveries in the second half of 2026. Daimler Buses will also roll out public charging stations at high-tourism locations across Europe to support longer routes to remote destinations.

“Our e-roadmap that began with the eCitaro in 2018 continues with the eIntouro,” said Till Oberwörder, CEO of Daimler Buses. The eIntouro has completed winter trials on the Arctic Circle and summer testing in Spain above 45°C, passing all evaluations.

Based on the high-floor Intouro, the eIntouro comes in two lengths:

  • eIntouro (12.18 m)
  • eIntouro M (13.09 m)
Depending on configuration, seating ranges from 50 to 63.

Each battery pack delivers 207 kWh (one or two packs available). The first pack sits behind the front axle for optimal weight distribution; the optional second occupies the former rear engine bay. The packs—and many high-voltage components—are shared with the eActros 600 long-haul truck. Using LFP chemistry, the batteries target up to 15 years service life with >95% usable capacity. Charging uses CCS Type 2:

  • Up to 400 kW with two packs
  • Up to 225 kW with one pack

An electric central drive delivers 320 kW continuous and 400 kW peak power.

A new vehicle electronics architecture enables over-the-air updates via the OMNIplus ON portal—not only for security patches but also feature updates and configuration changes, without workshop visits.

Standard and optional systems include Active Brake Assist 6 (ABA 6), which can automatically brake for pedestrians and cyclists whether crossing, approaching, or in-lane; Sideguard Assist 2 (standard), which monitors both sides and also supports lane changes above 40 km/h; and Frontguard Assist, which monitors the area ahead up to 15 km/h and can warn when pulling away. Also standard are Traffic Sign Assist (intelligent speed limit), Tyre Pressure Monitoring (TPM), Attention Assist (AtAs), an interface for alcohol testers, and a reversing camera, while options include a 360° camera system and MirrorCam in place of conventional mirrors.

The eIntouro is shown in Hall 5 of Brussels Expo through 9 October as a 12.18-metre intercity variant. An eIntouro M (13.09 m) with coach-style trim is available nearby for test drives, giving visitors their first on-road experience of the new model.

Daimler Buses plans battery-electric touring coaches by the end of the decade, followed by fuel-cell touring coaches. Its eCitaro city bus has been available since 2023 with a hydrogen fuel-cell range extender.
