Amsterdam, Netherland- Commercial Vehicle Charging Europe B.V. (Milence)., the joint venture between Daimler Truck, TRATON GROUP, and Volvo Group have launched their charging hub at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges in Belgium. This port handles 289 million tonnes annually and is crucial for global trade, recognized for its strategic location, connectivity, and advanced infrastructure within the Milence network.

Milence is a Europe's shift to electric heavy-duty vehicles with a pioneering public charging network. Their new hub at truck parking Ketenis features ten CCS chargers, each capable of up to 400kW, marking a milestone as Belgium's first and Europe's largest hub. Another hub at truck parking Goordijk, with five CCS chargers, is set to open this year. Milence plans to upgrade both hubs to Megawatt Charging System (MCS) once the technology is ready, ensuring robust, future-proof infrastructure accessible to all truck brands.

Milence provides seamless access to its charging network across Europe through partnerships with e-Mobility Service Providers, offering a user-friendly app and direct payment options. Their hubs ensure safe and convenient truck recharging with secured parking, amenities like Wi-Fi and vending machines, supporting the green corridor initiative for electric heavy-duty vehicles between Antwerp and Bruges. The Port of Antwerp-Bruges leads in sustainability, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2050 through renewable energy sources like solar panels and wind turbines.

Ms. Anja van Niersen, Milence CEO, said Milence is advancing its roadmap with a new hub on the busy Rhine-Alpine freight corridor, enhancing charging infrastructure for sustainable transport across Europe. This development at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges highlights the importance of strong partnerships in creating green corridors and marks a significant step toward a fossil-free road transport future, with Milence leading the way

Mr. Jacques Vandermeiren, CEO of Port of Antwerp-Bruges, said  “The need for charging infrastructure is a key element in the electrification of road transport. Completely in line with our leading role in the transition to renewable energy, we decided to act and, together with Milence, provide charging hubs in the Antwerp port area. We hope to be a source of inspiration for other ports and logistics areas.”

Ms. Annick De Ridder, President of the Board of Directors of Port of Antwerp-Bruges, said “These charging hubs make both truck parkings in the Antwerp port area an indispensable link in electric truck transport. Together with Milence, we remove an important barrier for domestic and foreign transporters to switch to electric trucks.

Road transport is and remains important for our port, for the fast and timely delivery of very specific products and for the ‘last mile’. Our port is Flanders’ economic engine. The more sustainable – and in this case, the more electric – this engine runs, the better!”
