Mohalla Buses in Delhi to improve last-mile connectivity. These buses will reduce CO2 emissions and serve 3,000 passengers daily, with free rides for women.
Date: August 29, 2024Delhi- PMI Electro Mobility Solutions Pvt. Ltd., has launched electric 'Mohalla Buses' in Delhi as part of a pilot project designed to enhance last-mile connectivity in the city. The initiative was inaugurated with the flagging off of a Mohalla Bus from Nehru Place Metro Station by Mr. Saurabh Bhardwaj, Urban Development Minister of Delhi NCT, and Mr. Somnath Bharti, Member of the Delhi Legislative Assembly. Simultaneously, Ms. Parmila Tokas, another Member of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, launched a bus from Vasant Vihar Metro Station.
This project introduces 9-meter air-conditioned low-floor electric buses to Delhi’s public transport network, targeting improved accessibility in areas that were previously underserved by conventional buses.
Dr. Aanchal Jain, CEO of PMI Electro Mobility Solutions Pvt. Ltd., emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting Delhi’s vision of a sustainable public transport system. The buses are equipped with a range of safety features, including emergency stop buttons, CCTV cameras, accessibility ramps, and fire extinguisher systems.
The pilot project will see these electric buses operating from Vasant Vihar and Nehru Place Metro Stations, serving multiple locations in South Delhi. Notably, women passengers will be able to travel for free on these buses.
These 24-seater electric buses are powered by fast-charging lithium-ion batteries and come with modern amenities such as a Real-Time Passenger Information System, panic buttons, and a Vehicle Location and Tracking System. The zero-emission buses are expected to reduce CO2 emissions by over 650 tons within the next year.
Initial projections indicate that approximately 3,000 passengers will utilize this service daily. The launch event, attended by government officials and PMI Electro Mobility executives, marks a significant step forward in the development of Delhi’s public transportation system.
