Chennai- Renault India has unveiled its largest design centre outside of France, strategically located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. This launch marks the beginning of the company’s transformative strategy, ‘renault. rethink’, which focuses on creating vehicles in India, for India, while also contributing to global markets.
The new design centre reinforces Renault’s commitment to the Indian automotive landscape and aligns with the Renault Group’s International Gameplan 2027. It also signifies a pivotal shift in the company’s approach from simply "Make in India" to "Design in India."
During the inauguration, Renault also previewed the design concept for the all-new Duster, scheduled for release later this year.
Mr. Laurens van den Acker, Chief Design Officer at Renault Group, said, “India is highly unique and locally driven. A dedicated design studio allows us to truly understand and respond to its nuances. This centre will be pivotal in developing models tailored for India while contributing globally.”
The Chennai design hub introduces a unique design philosophy titled ‘Tactile Confluence’, blending contemporary European sensibilities with traditional Indian aesthetics. The centre is outfitted with cutting-edge digital tools, including, A next-gen visualisation studio for immersive presentations, VR-based 3D concept evaluation zones, A massive LED wall (8.5m x 2.4m) for high-definition design displays, WE/ME zones for collaborative and introspective design work, Advanced virtual reality capabilities for lifelike design interaction.
Located near the Renault Nissan Technology & Business Centre India (RNTBCI), this facility creates a strong ecosystem combining both design and engineering excellence.
As part of the unveiling, Renault introduced a high-tech sculpture named ‘renault. rethink’, designed entirely in India. The installation captures the essence of innovation and evolution, featuring fragmented surfaces and a glowing core. “This isn’t just a sculpture; it’s our philosophy in physical form. It represents our commitment to innovation and to designing in India, for India.”
