Bakersfield, California - Sierra International Machinery., a processing equipment manufacturer, is shaking up the material handling market with its new Fly-Cab design and fully electric models, aimed at improving safety, efficiency, and operator comfort in scrap, recycling, and bulk material operations.
The highlight is the T815, featuring patented Fly-Cab technology that allows the operator’s cab to descend safely to ground level, minimizing slip, trip, and fall risks common in scrapyards. The cab includes a sliding door for easier entry, panoramic visibility, rear and side cameras, a tablet-style display, USB charging ports, Bluetooth, and adjustable seating. At full height, the cab extends to 19 feet, giving operators a clear view of large loads.
Built in partnership with Italy’s Tabarelli, which has decades of experience in material handlers, the T815 is an 86,000-pound machine with a 53-foot reach and a redesigned, wheel-free cab layout. Sierra continues to rely on hydraulic-over-hydraulic controls, offering operators smoother and more precise handling compared to fully electronic systems.
Sierra’s material handler lineup currently includes the T308, T409, T510, and T815, with the T916 expected soon. Electrification is expanding with the T409E and a recently imported electric T510, featuring modular lead-acid batteries that provide six to nine hours of operation and can be swapped in about 15 minutes.
Mr. Tom Hickson, Sierra’s director of material handler sales, said, “Early sales of the T815 and interest in our electric models are strong. The Sierra name stands for reliability — and now it stands for purpose-built material handlers too.”
The company operates on a direct sales model in North America, ensuring consistent service and parts availability, supported by a growing network of mechanics nationwide.
