Bolechowo-Osiedle, Poland- Solaris Bus & Coach sp. z o.o., the renowned commercial vehicle manufacturer, has secured a major order from Miejskie Zakłady Autobusowe Sp. z o.o. (MZA), the public transport operator in Warsaw. The agreement, signed on February 3rd, outlines the delivery of 50 articulated Solaris Urbino 18 electric buses, marking another milestone in the city’s green mobility efforts.
With nearly 1,350 Solaris buses already integrated into the MZA Warsaw fleet, including 163 electric models, the addition of these new electric buses reinforces the capital’s ongoing commitment to zero-emission transport. The fleet, which is one of the largest of its kind in Europe, will continue to grow, making Warsaw a leader in sustainable urban transit.
The Solaris Urbino 18 electric bus, the flagship model in Solaris’s battery-powered range, is set to feature the latest advancements in electric vehicle technology. Each bus will be equipped with an electric motor and cutting-edge Solaris High Energy batteries, with charging occurring at the depot via a standard plug-in connection.
One of the key innovations in the new Urbino 18 model is the modular drive system. This design places the drive components on the roof of the vehicle, maximizing the interior space and allowing the bus to accommodate up to 103 passengers comfortably.
The co-operation between Solaris and MZA Warsaw has been ongoing for 28 years, with the manufacturer delivering nearly 1,350 buses in total. The first electric Solaris buses appeared on the streets of Warsaw in 2015. Since then, MZA’s fleet has grown to include 163 battery-electric Solaris buses. It is also worth noting that, in addition to the newly signed contract, Solaris is nearing the completion of another order placed by MZA Warsaw in 2023. Once all orders are fulfilled, the operator’s electric fleet will consist of an impressive 224 Solaris electric buses.
This new order underscores the continued trust MZA places in Solaris’s technology and its commitment to a cleaner, more efficient transportation future for Warsaw.
