Toyota City, Japan- Toyota Motor Corporation., has revealed the Land Cruiser FJ, a new addition to the Land Cruiser family set to go on sale in Japan around mid-2026. Building on more than 70 years of real-world development since the original BJ (1951)—the first vehicle to reach the sixth station of Mount Fuji—the FJ aims to deliver the Land Cruiser hallmarks of reliability, durability, and off-road performance to an even broader audience.
With cumulative Land Cruiser sales of approximately 12.15 million units across 190+ countries and regions, today’s lineup spans three pillars: the flagship Station Wagon (300 Series), the Heavy-Duty (70 Series) workhorse, and the core 250 Series introduced in 2024 as a return to simple, sturdy roots. The new FJ slots in to offer fresh “Freedom & Joy”—the ability to enjoy a Land Cruiser in your own way—while retaining the brand’s trusted capability. Toyota will showcase the FJ at the Japan Mobility Show 2025 (Oct 30–Nov 9).
The FJ’s exterior emphasizes a square cabin for habitability and cargo space, with a rectangular “dice-motif” body and chamfered edges that project a lean, robust stance. Powerful bumpers and flared fenders front and rear add visual stability, while removable, segmented corner bumpers improve repairability and enable easy customization.
Inside, a horizontal instrument panel aids instant recognition of vehicle attitude, with grouped screens and switches to reduce eye movement and a naturally placed shift knob. A low cowl and low beltline improve forward and surface visibility on- and off-road. Toyota Safety Sense, including the Pre-collision Safety System, supports confident driving.
Built on a platform refined within the IMV series, the FJ targets generous ground clearance and approach angles, and achieves wheel articulation comparable to the 70 Series. A shorter wheelbase 270 mm shorter than the 250 Series delivers a 5.5 m minimum turning radius, boosting maneuverability in tight trails and urban settings. Added under-floor bracing and increased body rigidity enhance handling stability. Development included extensive off-road testing to uphold Land Cruiser standards of reliability and durability.
Toyota plans a stream of customization options (availability varies by region), including round heritage-style headlights, MOLLE panels for outdoor gear, and rugged exterior accessories. Toyota is also developing the Land Hopper, an electric personal-mobility device designed to carry people and cargo; it can be stowed in the FJ’s luggage area to extend adventures onto unpaved trails.
