Beijing, China – Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group Co., Ltd., a construction machinery manufacturer, has signed a landmark export contract with Australian mining giant Fortescue Ltd., marking China’s largest-ever order for green mining machinery. Under the agreement, XCMG will supply 150–200 units of 240-ton battery-electric haul trucks between 2028 and 2030, supporting Fortescue’s zero-carbon target for land-based operations.
The signing ceremony took place in Beijing with Yang Dongsheng, Chairman of XCMG, and Dr. Andrew Forrest, Executive Chairman of Fortescue, in attendance. The agreement was formally announced by Fortescue during the United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 26, highlighting the global significance of the deal.
This milestone underscores XCMG’s leadership in zero-carbon, smart mining solutions. said XCMG. The battery-electric trucks will account for nearly half of Fortescue’s future fleet requirements, accelerating the company’s transition away from fossil fuels in its iron ore operations.
The collaboration reflects the broader green revolution in the mining sector, where decarbonization and sustainability have become critical objectives. XCMG’s expertise in AI-powered mining machinery and end-to-end green solutions has enabled it to deliver turnkey, deployment-ready technologies for surface and underground operations worldwide.
This strategic partnership builds on previous collaborations: at bauma CHINA 2024, XCMG and Fortescue signed an earlier contract for Chinese electric mining equipment, which at the time set a record for export scale. The new agreement represents both an expansion in scale and an affirmation of XCMG’s innovative capabilities across the full green mining value chain.
