Indianapolis, United State- Allison Transmission Inc., has announce that the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) has selected New Flyer buses equipped with Allison’s eGen Flex hybrid propulsion system for operation in the Baltimore metropolitan area. The 40-foot electric-hybrid buses are scheduled for production in 2025.

The eGen Flex system is designed to enhance public transit efficiency while supporting cities in their efforts to lower emissions. Featuring innovative geofencing technology, the system enables buses to operate in engine-off mode for up to 50% of their routes, significantly reducing both emissions and noise. Additionally, the eGen Flex delivers up to 25% better fuel economy compared to conventional diesel buses, offering meaningful environmental and economic benefits for transit agencies worldwide.

Mr. Rohan Barua, Vice President, North America Sales, Global Channel and Aftermarket at Allison Transmission, said "We are proud to partner with MDOT to bring our eGen Flex hybrid electric solution to Baltimore. Allison is committed to working with OEMs and transit agencies to provide innovative solutions that help reduce emissions. The eGen Flex system can be implemented now to help cities achieve their sustainability goals as the industry continues to evaluate low emission technology."
