Haryana BMW AG., a car manufacturer, has registered New 1 Series Design Patent in India. The updated 1 Series features a redesigned kidney grille similar to the 3 Series and slimmer headlights. Along with the 1 Series, BMW has also patented the Skytop roadster design in India. While the updated 2 Series Gran Coupe is expected this year, these patents suggest the 1 Series hatchback and Skytop roadster could be headed to India.

Revealed in June 2024, the fourth-generation 1 Series retains the basic underpinnings of the third-gen model (introduced in 2019), but features an all-new front design.

The new 1 Series replaces the tooth-like kidney grille with one resembling the updated 3 Series, and features slimmer headlights. It has a sleeker, more angular design, with minor side updates and new tail-lights and rear bumper. The M Sport trim offers a more aggressive look compared to the standard model.

The 1 Series features BMW's 20-inch Curved Display with OS 9 software, integrating a 10.7-inch digital instrument display and a 10.3-inch infotainment system. Physical buttons are minimized, with even AC controls incorporated into the infotainment. Internationally, the 1 Series offers 48V mild-hybrid petrol and diesel engines, including a 170hp 120, a 300hp M135 xDrive, and diesel variants with 150hp 118d and 163hp 120d.

The BMW Skytop roadster, previewed by the Concept Skytop in May 2024, will go into production with a limited run of just 50 units. Retaining the Z8-inspired design, it features a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine. The design patent reveals ultra-thin LED headlights, large bonnet vents, and a central divider with a ducktail spoiler. Inside, the roadster boasts brown leather upholstery, BMW’s latest iDrive system, a digital display, and a conventional multifunction steering wheel.
