China- Shanghai (Gasgoo) – On May 18, Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL),Co.,Limited,in collaboration with the China Communications and Transportation Association, officially launched a new-generation battery swapping ecosystem for heavy-duty trucks during an event held in Datong, Shanxi province. The launch featured the debut of the 75# standardized swappable electric block and a chassis-based battery swapping solution designed to support multiple application scenarios across the transport sector.

CATL also unveiled bold goals for the future, aiming to build a nationwide "8 east-west and 10 north-south expressway" battery swapping green network by 2030, covering 80% of China’s main logistics corridors. Additionally, the company plans to drive heavy-duty truck electrification to a 50% market penetration rate within the next three years.

CATL Chairman and CEO Mr. Robin, Zeng stated that the heavy-duty truck sector is set for rapid expansion over the next three years, driven by the dual forces of the zero-carbon transition and the need to reduce logistics costs. He anticipates that the electrification rate in this segment will reach 50% within that timeframe.

According to CATL, the newly launched 75# standardized swappable electric block offers three key advantages: the lowest lifecycle cost per tonne-kilometer, industry-leading safety standards, and high standardization for seamless integration with battery swapping truck models.

CATL’s QIJI battery swapping solution is designed to achieve four key breakthroughs: standardization, cost-efficiency, broad adaptability across use cases, and deep ecosystem integration. According to Yang Jun, General Manager of CATL’s battery swapping division and CEO of QIJI Energy, the 75# swappable electric block features exceptional durability, supports modular configurations, and reduces costs through its chassis-based battery swapping approach. By decoupling the battery from the vehicle, the solution helps lower R&D and procurement costs for both OEMs and end customers. So far, CATL has partnered with over ten automakers, leading to the launch of more than 30 battery-swappable vehicle models based on this innovative chassis architecture.

The QIJI standard battery swap station is equipped with adaptive axle distance adjustment and posture control technologies, enabling compatibility with 95% of mainstream heavy-duty truck models. At the event, CATL also unveiled its next-generation super hub station, capable of supporting over 700,000 kWh of battery swaps per day.

Reaffirming its commitment to sustainable logistics, CATL announced significant investments in building a national battery swapping network for long-haul transport. By 2025, the company plans to establish 300 battery swap stations across 13 key regions, including Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, the Yangtze River Delta, and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. These stations will serve critical freight corridors such as the Cangyu Line, G2 Beijing–Shanghai Expressway, Shanghai–Guangzhou Line, and Shanghai–Chengdu Line.

Looking ahead to 2030, CATL aims to complete its "8 east-west and 10 north-south expressways" green battery swap network. This extensive infrastructure will cover 150,000 kilometers of highways and trunk roads, connect 16 major urban clusters, and support 80% of China’s core freight transport capacity.
