Leinfelden-Echterdingen / Regensburg- Daimler Truck Holding AG., has handed over eight fully electric Mercedes‑Benz eCitaro G articulated buses to das Stadtwerk.Mobilität in Regensburg, marking another milestone in the city’s transition to zero-emission public transport. The official handover took place in the presence of Regensburg’s Mayor Gertrud Maltz-Schwarzfischer, senior representatives of das Stadtwerk.Regensburg, and Daimler Buses management, alongside officials from the Government of the Upper Palatinate, which supported the project financially.
At the same event, a new 3,500-square-metre electric bus depot was inaugurated. The facility is equipped to charge up to 53 electric buses and forms a key part of Regensburg’s expanding e-mobility infrastructure. Daimler Buses is scheduled to deliver a further 15 eCitaro G buses to das Stadtwerk.Mobilität in the second half of the year.
The newly delivered 18.13-metre articulated buses increase Regensburg’s eCitaro fleet to 20 vehicles. Since 2021, twelve 12.14-metre eCitaro solo buses have already been operating in the city, giving the transport operator several years of experience with Daimler Buses’ electric technology.
Ms. Sandra Schönherr, Operations Manager at das Stadtwerk.Mobilität, extensive testing of electric buses from multiple manufacturers preceded the decision. She noted that the Mercedes-Benz eCitaro ultimately stood out due to its spacious, comfortable interior and long driving range.
The blue-and-white eCitaro G buses are equipped with seven high-voltage NMC3 battery packs providing a total capacity of 688 kWh. Electrically driven middle and rear axles deliver 282 kW each, ensuring strong performance and traction. The buses support plug-in depot charging and feature charging sockets on both sides at the front.
All eight articulated electric buses comply with the EU General Safety Regulation and are fitted with advanced safety systems including Preventive Brake Assist 2, Sideguard Assist 2, Frontguard Assist, traffic sign assist, attention assist, and a rear-view camera. Each bus offers seating for 45 passengers, a total capacity of 110 people, and includes a ramp to support passengers with reduced mobility
