Poland- Solaris Bus & Coach sp. z o.o., has signed a deal with GZM Metropolis, the association of municipalities in Poland’s Silesia region, to supply 42 Urbino electric buses and depot charging equipment. Under the contract, the southern-Poland operator PKM Świerklaniec will receive 24 twelve-metre Urbino 12 electric buses and 18 articulated Urbino 18 electric buses. Deliveries are slated for the second quarter of 2026.
This is GZM’s second major order with Solaris. A 2022 agreement brought 32 electric buses into service in 2023 across Katowice, Gliwice, Sosnowiec and Świerklaniec. The new vehicles are planned to join PKM Świerklaniec’s fleet in the first half of 2026.
Both the Urbino 12 electric and Urbino 18 electric feature Solaris’s modular drive layout that removes the traditional engine tower, freeing interior space. The 12-metre version can carry up to 70 passengers, while the articulated model accommodates up to 120. Power comes from Solaris High Energy batteries—600 kWh in the 12-metre buses and 800 kWh in the 18-metre units—charged via plug-in connectors with an integrated charge-status display.
To boost safety and comfort, the buses will come equipped with driver assistance features, including a speed assistant, and an advanced camera system monitoring the cabin as well as areas in front of and alongside the vehicle. Each bus will also have a passenger-counting system and double USB ports at seats. The eSConnect fleet management platform will enable advanced telematics and predictive maintenance.
Both models will include a preconditioning system to keep the driver’s cab and passenger compartment at a comfortable temperature during and after charging, with remote control through eSConnect. As a European leader in zero-emission buses—with more than 3,300 electric Solaris vehicles already operating in European cities—Solaris’s latest order for GZM Katowice advances the region’s shift toward cleaner, quieter public transport.
