John Deere has acquired Sentera to boost its precision ag tools with advanced imagery and analytics for smarter, more efficient farming.
Date: June 1, 2025Moline, Illinois - Deere & Company., an agricultural machinery manufacturer, has announced the acquisition of Sentera., a Minnesota-based provider of advanced remote imagery solutions for agriculture. This strategic move will enhance John Deere’s existing precision agriculture offerings by integrating Sentera’s high-resolution imagery and analytics tools, enabling farmers to make smarter, data-driven decisions aimed at improving profitability, efficiency, and sustainability.
Mr. Chris Winkler, Director of Digital Software and Solutions at John Deere, said, “We’re excited to add Sentera’s team to our organization and integrate their advanced solutions into the suite of John Deere tools that help farmers do more with less. Combining Sentera’s imagery capabilities with the John Deere Operations Center will enable our customers to seamlessly gather and integrate agronomic data, understand real-time conditions, and turn data into insights that drive decisions in the field throughout the growing season.”
Sentera’s drone-compatible cameras and FieldAgent software allow users to capture and analyze high-resolution field data with speed and precision. These tools empower farmers and agronomists to assess plant health, detect stressors, and take prompt action. One of Sentera’s standout features, “Smartscript Weeds,” generates customized herbicide prescriptions based on detailed weed maps created from aerial imagery. These prescriptions can be wirelessly transferred to sprayers with individual nozzle control, reducing chemical use and increasing efficiency.
The integration of Sentera’s technology brings a host of new capabilities to John Deere’s precision ag suite. Weed mapping is just one example, farmers can also use Sentera solutions to evaluate crop stand uniformity, detect disease pressure, and monitor pest levels. These insights align with John Deere’s mission to support farmers at every stage of their technology adoption journey, from basic tools to advanced systems like its “See & Spray” precision sprayers.
Mr. Brian Wenngatz, CEO of Sentera, said, “John Deere is exactly the right home for Sentera. They share our belief that the future of access to precision agriculture technologies is built on trusted relationships, measurable insights, and scalable platforms. Together, we’ll be able to support more farmers and help them unlock more value.”
