KEYOU delivered first 18-ton hydrogen truck to EP Trans, after delays due to component shortages.
Date: December 9, 2024
Munich, Germany - KEYOU GmbH., a clean mobility company, has officially handed over the first 18-tonne truck from pioneer fleet to EP Trans, witnessed by Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs, Hubert Aiwanger. Initially delayed due to supply issues, the truck is set for operation by early 2025 on a Bavarian route for an international steel company.
KEYOU first pioneer vehicles were integrated by partner Paul Nutzfahrzeuge in Vilshofen, who also built the earlier prototypes, including the 12-meter bus and 18-ton truck. Based on a Daimler Actros chassis, the trucks feature a converted 7.8L Deutz engine with KEYOU’s hydrogen system and Allison automatic transmission. Following tests and optimizations, road approval is expected soon.
The first vehicle was handed over to EP Trans at the Hydrogen Dialogue in Nuremberg, witnessed by Bavaria’s Minister Hubert Aiwanger. Originally set for late 2023, the delivery was delayed due to supplier issues but marks a key milestone.
The KEYOU H2 truck marks a major step in decarbonizing EP Trans' fleet and its customers’ supply chains. Set to operate in Bavaria for a steel company, the truck offers zero emissions, long range, and efficiency without lengthy charging times. "KEYOU’s technology convinced us from the start," said Markus Pumpf, EP Trans MD. "The all-inclusive package, including CO2 toll savings, insurance, and maintenance, adds great value," added Georg Ehrlinger, MD of EP Trans.
KEYOU is focusing on the development and introduction of its 40-ton hydrogen trucks following the successful launch of its 18-ton fleet. Set to roll out in 2026, the first Actros-based 40-ton trucks will feature KEYOU’s hydrogen engine with a 12.8-liter Daimler Actros engine, delivering 346 kW of power. The trucks will be equipped with 350-bar hydrogen tanks, offering an estimated range of 650 kilometers.
