Munich, Germany- Knorr-Bremse AG., a braking system and a major supplier of rail and commercial vehicle technologies, has secured a significant order from a leading Japanese commercial vehicle manufacturer to deliver advanced solutions for highly automated driving (SAE Level 4) and Level 2 series production systems.
The order covers equipment for around 1,100 commercial vehicles, including heavy-duty trucks and buses for Japan, medium-duty trucks for the U.S., and additional vehicles for Southeast Asia. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2028, with the contract volume in the lower three-digit million-euro range.
As part of the agreement, Knorr-Bremse will provide:
- L4 technologies: rGSBC (redundant Global Scalable Brake Control) and rAHPS (redundant Advanced Hybrid Power Steering) for trucks and buses in Japan and MDTs for the U.S.
- L2 technologies: GSBC (Global Scalable Brake Control), GSAT (Global Scalable Air Treatment), foot brake modules, RCB (Recirculating Ball Steering) gears, and AHPS (Advanced Hybrid Power Steering) systems. These will be deployed across tens of thousands of vehicles annually in Japan, Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.

The project is also part of a government-funded L4 autonomous driving program in Japan, supporting the development of next-generation automated commercial vehicles. Beyond reinforcing Knorr-Bremse’s technological leadership in automated driving, the order strengthens the company’s market position in Japan and across the Asia-Pacific region.
