Komatsu's new WA475-11 and WA485-11 wheel loaders offer more power, better fuel efficiency, and improved hill-climbing.
Date: March 14, 2025Tokyo, Japan - Komatsu Ltd., a construction equipment manufacturer, has introduced two new wheel loaders, the WA475-11 and WA485-11, offering increased power, improved fuel efficiency, and enhanced hill-climbing performance compared to their predecessors.
The WA475-11 is powered by a 343-horsepower Komatsu engine, delivering 53 more horsepower than its predecessor. Despite this boost, it achieves 7% lower fuel consumption and a 40% increase in climbing speed, according to the company.
The WA485-11 is equipped with a 363-horsepower Komatsu engine, providing a 64-horsepower increase over the WA480-8. According to the company, it offers 12% lower fuel consumption and 13% faster climbing speed.
The WA475-11 (5.5 to 6.3 cubic yards) replaces the WA475-10, while the WA485-11 (6.4 to 7.2 cubic yards) succeeds the WA480-8. Both models feature Komatsu’s Hydrostatic-Mechanical Transmission, which shifts to hydrostatic for high-torque demands and mechanical for improved fuel efficiency during lighter operations.
The redesigned four-pillar cab features angle feedback joystick steering and independent work control to reduce fatigue. Engine speed auto-adjusts based on lever operation, simplifying tasks and reducing brake wear. A steering wheel option is available. Improved visibility comes from a larger lower glass area and the removal of two rear pillars, while in-cab noise is also reduced.
Standard features include rear object detection with a warning buzzer and indicator light, plus a deluxe LED light package. Redesigned buckets improve digging efficiency by rolling material along an inclined floor. Paired with the auto-digging system, this boosts productivity, especially for newer operators.
To enhance productivity, both models offer a yard loader (YL) configuration featuring larger buckets, heavier counterweights, wide low-profile tires, and a reinforced frame. Designed for quarry and aggregate applications, the YL setup enables efficient loading of on-highway trucks in just three passes.
