Leinfelden-Echterdingen/Laakirchen (Austria)- Lidl Austria GmbH., is pushing ahead with its e-mobility plans and expanding its fleet of battery-electric trucks. In addition to the 14 units of Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 vehicles already delivered, the company has signed a new framework agreement for a further 42 units, scheduled for delivery by mid-2027. By the end of this year, the first 20 e-trucks from Mercedes-Benz Trucks will be operating in nationwide store distribution. At the same time, Lidl is building what it describes as the most powerful truck fast-charging network in Austrian grocery retail.

The first eActros 600 trucks were officially commissioned at the opening of the new charging park at Lidl’s logistics hub in Laakirchen. During the event, Lidl Austria CEO Michael Kunz presented both the vehicles and the high-capacity charging infrastructure to Austria’s Federal Minister for Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure, Peter Hanke, together with Daimler Truck Austria CEO Jens Tittel.

Aligned with its group-wide “Net Zero by 2050” climate strategy, Lidl Austria is investing heavily in sustainable transport solutions and positioning itself as a pioneer in the country’s food retail sector. Battery-electric trucks have been in daily use since 2024. They run on 100% green electricity, including power generated by photovoltaic systems installed on the roofs of Lidl’s logistics centers.

Mr. Jens Tittel, CEO of Daimler Truck Austria, said, Since mid-August, the first Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 units have been operating continuously in Lidl’s logistics operations. “We are very proud of the successful market launch of the eActros 600 in Austria. We are also delighted to support Lidl on its journey towards sustainable transport. This shows that electrification in national long-haul and distribution transport is becoming a reality.”
