Munich, Germany- MAN Truck & Bus SE., as delivered the first two all-electric MAN eTGX trucks to logistics operator Koinè, marking the start of a multi-year partnership that could see up to 50 eTGX integrated into Koinè’s fleet. The vehicles will support beverage producer Sanpellegrino’s logistics operations, and in the next phase, their charging electricity is expected to be generated from photovoltaic systems at Koinè depots, reinforcing efforts to decarbonise heavy transport.
The initial deliveries form part of a wider plan to cut the environmental footprint of logistics while maintaining operational efficiency. With long range and fast-charging capability, the eTGX trucks are designed to fit smoothly into daily transport cycles and help establish a scalable, lower-emission logistics model.
Mr. Michael Kobriger, Member of the Executive Board for Production & Logistics at MAN Truck & Bus SE, said, “Every MAN eTGX delivered is a step toward the future of transport. Our mission is to provide vehicles that combine cutting-edge technology with environmental responsibility, supporting our customers in their energy transition.”
Koinè is also investing heavily in renewable energy to support its electrification roadmap. The company is developing an emission-free solar energy system at its new Levate logistics centre, with generation capacity of up to 5 MW. Paolo Toccafondi, Managing Director of Koinè S.p.A., said the company aims to electrify up to one-third of its fleet within three years and sees sustainability as a day-to-day commitment, enabling safe and responsible transport for customers such as the Sanpellegrino Group.
The first two eTGX units will operate pilot routes linking Sanpellegrino production sites with the Madone and Levate logistics depots, covering around 250,000 km per year. The routes have been selected to optimise charging windows and maximise operational range.
Mr. Svante Palebo, Global Head of Supply Chain at Nestlé Waters (the group behind Sanpellegrino), said electrifying transport is a key pillar of the company’s decarbonisation strategy and that initiatives like this help create a more efficient and future-ready supply chain.
Infrastructure and fleet transition support is being provided by MOON POWER Italia (Volkswagen Group’s B2B charging solutions brand) and MAN Transport Solutions, MAN’s consultancy service for fleet electrification. Marc Martinez, Managing Director of MAN Truck & Bus Italia, said the project signals that sustainable logistics is already becoming reality in Italy and highlighted the need for clear policies, effective consultancy, and forward-looking business leadership to accelerate the transition.
The delivered vehicles are MAN eTGX 20.544 4x2 LL SA EB electric trucks, equipped with a 400 kW (544 hp) electric motor and six battery packs totalling 534 kWh, enabling a range of up to 570 km without intermediate charging. They feature the GX long-haul cab, advanced safety systems, a five-year maintenance contract, and MAN DigitalServices to support efficient electric fleet management.
