Munich, Germany- MAN Truck & Bus SE., an automotive manufacturer and the subsidiary of Traton, is showcasing the latest evolution of its electric bus portfolio at the UITP Summit 2025 in Hamburg, with the premiere of the updated Lion's City 10 E. Featuring MAN’s brand-new battery generation from its in-house production facility in Nuremberg, the compact 10.5-meter eBus takes center stage at the company’s stand in Hall A4 from June 16 to 18.
A highlight of the exhibition is the new MAN BatteryPack, incorporating cutting-edge NMC lithium-ion technology. Visitors can explore the new battery system, which delivers higher efficiency, improved energy density, reduced weight, and better depth of discharge. As a result, the bus achieves equal or greater range with fewer battery packs creating more room for passengers while maintaining optimal performance.
“With the 2025 update, our Lion’s City E is setting new benchmarks in urban transport,” says Mr. Robert Katzer, Head of Sales & Product Bus at MAN Truck & Bus. “Visitors will experience smart, future-ready solutions that address the transport needs of today and tomorrow.”
Equipped with two doors, four battery packs with a total capacity of 356 kWh, and advanced driver assistance systems, the Lion’s City 10 E offers seating for 27 and standing space for 54 passengers—matching the capacity of many 12-meter buses but in a more maneuverable and space-efficient package.
The new battery generation doesn’t just improve performance—it also enhances sustainability. Built for a service life of up to 14 years or 1 million kilometers, up to 96% of the batteries are recyclable. Series production of the new battery system began in April 2025 at MAN’s Nuremberg plant, and the technology will be used in all upcoming MAN eBuses and eTrucks.
More details will be shared during a dedicated presentation by Christoph Matousek, Launch Manager Bus at MAN, on June 18 at 11:30 a.m., titled: “THE NEW MAN BATTERY PACK – lifelong energy, one reliable partner.”
Hamburg holds special significance for MAN, as it was the city where the eBus journey began in 2019 with the first handover of two Lion’s City E units. “Since then, over 2,500 of our eBuses have entered service across Europe,” notes Mr. Heinz Kiess, Head of Product Marketing Bus at MAN Truck & Bus. “It’s fitting that the latest chapter begins here too.”
The UITP Summit coincides with Hamburg’s Mobility Festival on June 14, turning the Jungfernstieg into a vibrant hub for new mobility discussions. MAN’s participation in both events highlights its deep commitment to sustainable, zero-emission transport in line with the Paris Climate Agreement.
In addition to innovative hardware, MAN is also offering 360° consulting services through its MAN Transport Solutions team. Operators looking to switch to electric fleets benefit from a comprehensive analysis, guidance on infrastructure, route planning, energy management, and digital tools—ensuring a smooth and efficient transition.
