At the 100th anniversary celebration in September, karldischinger logistikdienstleister and Mercedes-Benz Trucks signed a letter of intent (LOI) for a total of 100 zero-emission trucks over the next five years.
Date: October 7, 2024Leinfelden-Echterdingen/Ehrenkirchen, Germany – Mercedes-Benz Trucks, a part of Daimler Truck AG., a commercial vehicle manufacture and karldischinger logistikdienstleister GmbH & Co. KG., a logistics company, are celebrating 100 years of successful and reliable use of Mercedes-Benz trucks at the Ehrenkirchen-based company near Freiburg in the Breisgau region. karldischinger operates a nearly uniform fleet of around 120 Mercedes-Benz vehicles, primarily from the Actros and Atego series, and has established full-service contracts with Mercedes-Benz CharterWay to ensure seamless operations.
On the occasion of the anniversary, the partners signed a letter of intent (LOI) for the delivery of 100 zero-emission trucks over the next five years. These trucks may include both battery-electric and hydrogen-powered models, depending on their intended use and development progress. Daimler Truck Group is prioritizing battery-electric and hydrogen drives to decarbonize transportation. Mercedes-Benz has been producing battery-electric trucks since 2021, while hydrogen fuel cell trucks are currently in customer-oriented testing.
Mr. Christian Wilz, CEO Mercedes-Benz Trucks & FUSO Germany, said, “The successful partnership between Mercedes-Benz Trucks and the freight forwarding company karldischinger logistikdienstleister represents a long-standing and excellent business relationship characterized by a high degree of respect and trust. I am therefore very pleased that karldischinger logistikdienstleister will continue to rely on trucks from our company in the future and that we have jointly signed a letter of intent for 100 zero-emission vehicles.”
Mercedes-Benz Trucks aims to achieve locally emission-free inbound logistics for its Wörth assembly plant by the end of 2026, collaborating with its logistics partners. Currently, around 20 eActros 300 trucks are in use for deliveries to Wörth am Rhein, including one from karldischinger logistikdienstleister. The company is also working on electrifying inbound logistics for other German plants in the Daimler Truck production network, including those in Kassel, Mannheim, and Gaggenau.
Mr. Jürgen Distl, Head of Operations at Mercedes-Benz Trucks, said “For a century, the name “karldischinger” has stood for reliability and innovative spirit in the transport industry. The company has been operating as a carrier for transportation at our plants since 1995, and karldischinger logistikdienstleister has managed to establish itself as an extremely reliable partner for our production network. I am very pleased that karldischinger logistikdienstleister is going to be using more battery-electric trucks in our inbound logistics and will thus make a significant contribution to the electrification of our supply chains.”
Mr. Karlhubert Dischinger, shareholder of karldischinger logistikdienstleister, said “Karlhubert Dischinger recalls taking over his family's company in 1975 and quickly achieving the goal of doubling the fleet from 10 to 20 trucks. Since then, they have transitioned from a transport company to a specialized logistics provider, with their fleet now accounting for only 20% of revenue. Safety and reliability remain priorities, emphasized by a recent letter of intent for 100 climate-friendly trucks”.
Karldischinger logistikdienstleister has partnered with Daimler Truck for nearly 30 years, serving as a logistics provider in the Black Forest and Rhine plain. Dischinger takes pride in the company’s roots, noting their first truck was a Benz delivery van acquired by his grandfather in 1924. Through their long-standing partnership, they have embraced every innovation in the trucking industry, from diesel engines to electric trucks, while maintaining a focus on ergonomics and safety.
Preparations are underway in Südbaden for the next era of goods transport. A fixed 300 kW charging station will support the eActros 300 in inbound logistics starting this week. Karldischinger logistikdienstleister is focusing on both the towing vehicle and its load. A new e-trailer for fresh food logistics is in operation, featuring an electrically powered cooling unit and a recuperation axle that generates the necessary energy.
