MFTBC Launches German VT-Based Mechanics Training Program

Kanagawa, JapanMitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC)., is launching a pioneering training initiative in collaboration with the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, set to revolutionize the skill development landscape for young mechanics in Japan. Commencing in April 2024, the program, known as the "Vocational Training Automotive Mechatronics" Program, will integrate the renowned German vocational training model into the Japanese automotive sector, with MFTBC as a key partner.

This innovative program, widely recognized as the "dual system," will immerse participants in a comprehensive three-year training regimen combining practical work experience at MFTBC and specialized education through the vocational training curriculum. Participants will undergo rigorous training, encompassing both hands-on learning at MFTBC's facilities and classroom instruction at affiliated institutions.

One of the hallmarks of this program is its ability to condense the typical five-year learning curve into a compact three-year timeframe, offering accelerated knowledge and skills acquisition to aspiring mechanics. Through a blend of on-the-job training and structured classroom sessions, participants will gain proficiency in fundamental maintenance tasks and cutting-edge technologies, including electric vehicles (EVs).

By aligning with the German vocational training model, MFTBC aims to standardize the skill levels and knowledge base of its mechanics, thereby enhancing service quality and customer satisfaction. The program will be overseen by experienced instructors, known as "basic trainers," who will conduct regular assessments to monitor progress and ensure consistent skill development across all participants.

Kazuo Matsunaga, Chairman of MFTBC, lauds the program as a transformative opportunity for young employees, positioning them as future leaders in the automotive industry. Against the backdrop of evolving challenges such as labor shortages and industry demands, MFTBC views this initiative as pivotal in solidifying its reputation as a trusted provider of automotive solutions.

Marcus Schürmann, Chief Executive Officer of the German Industry and Commerce in Japan, expresses enthusiasm for expanding the program to encompass other vocational disciplines, tailored to meet the evolving needs of Japan's industrial landscape. Collaboration with local educational partners is seen as integral to this endeavor, with a commitment to fostering ongoing innovation and excellence in skill development.

The launch of the Vocational Training Automotive Mechatronics Program marks a significant milestone in the evolution of skill development initiatives in Japan, signaling a new era of collaboration between industry stakeholders and educational institutions. As MFTBC and its partners embark on this journey, the stage is set for a transformative impact on the automotive sector, paving the way for a future generation of highly skilled mechanics poised to drive innovation and service excellence.
