The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated SEMICON India 2024 at India Expo Mart in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh today. Shri Modi took a walkthrough of the exhibition showcased on the occasion. The three-day conference from 11 to 13th September will showcase India’s semiconductor strategy and policy which envisions making India a global hub for semiconductors.
Prime Minister Modi addressed the SEMI gathering, emphasizing India's emerging role in the global semiconductor industry. He declared, “In 21st-century India, the chips are never down,” highlighting India’s resilience and growth in semiconductor technology. Modi compared the semiconductor sector to a diode, noting that India’s industry supports bidirectional energy flow, symbolizing mutual growth between industries and government policies.
He underscored India’s significant contribution to semiconductor design, aiming to create a skilled workforce of 85,000. Modi announced a Rs 1 trillion research fund and detailed the government's support, including 50% financial backing for semiconductor facilities, which has already attracted over Rs 1.5 trillion in investments. He also highlighted initiatives like the Semicon India Program and the Critical Mineral Mission, focusing on domestic production and international cooperation.
Modi praised the success of the Digital India Mission and outlined ambitious goals for the electronics sector, targeting $500 billion in value and 6 million jobs by 2030. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to becoming a semiconductor powerhouse, enhancing global supply chain resilience, and integrating technology with democratic values.
