Gujarat- Suzuki Motor Corporation., and its wholly owned Indian subsidiary, Suzuki R&D Center India Private Limited (SRDI), have officially inaugurated the BANAS SUZUKI BIOGAS PLANT in Agthala, Banaskantha district, Gujarat, to produce and sell compressed biogas (CBG) for use as fuel in CNG vehicles.

The biogas project is the outcome of a tripartite agreement signed in September 2023 between Suzuki, the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), and Banas Dairy, facilitated through SRDI. Construction of the plant has since been completed, leading to the commencement of operations.

The inauguration ceremony took place at the Banas Dairy Sanadar Plant and was attended by Amit Shah, Minister of Home Affairs, along with members of Parliament, government officials, Shankar Chaudhary, Chairman of Banas Dairy and Speaker of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, senior Suzuki executives, and approximately 25,000 dairy farmers. Following the ceremony, key dignitaries visited and inspected the biogas plant.

The BANAS SUZUKI BIOGAS PLANT is designed to process up to 100 tonnes of cow dung per day, producing approximately 1.5 tonnes of compressed biogas daily, along with organic fertilizer as a by-product. The daily CBG output is sufficient to fuel around 850 CNG vehicles per day, based on average fuel consumption and driving assumptions for CNG passenger vehicles.

Commenting on the milestone, Toshihiro Suzuki, Representative Director and President of Suzuki, stated that the company is committed to building a carbon-neutral and recycling-oriented society by leveraging India’s abundant rural resources. He emphasized that the partnership with India’s dairy cooperative ecosystem has the potential to unlock economic opportunities in rural regions and contribute to sustainable regional development. Suzuki reaffirmed its commitment to expanding its biogas business in India, aligned with its corporate philosophy of “By Your Side.”

With this initiative, Suzuki strengthens its sustainability roadmap in India, integrating renewable energy, rural development, and circular economy principles into its long-term growth strategy.
