Volvo Buses will supply 46 electric buses to Transdev for Utrecht, set to begin service on December 14, 2025.
Date: October 25, 2024Gothenburg, Sweden- Volvo Buses, a provider of sustainable public transport solutions, has received a major order from Transdev in the Netherlands for 46 electric buses. These buses will support the electrification of public transport in the city of Utrecht, marking Volvo’s largest order of fully electric buses since it began its formal collaboration with bodybuilder MCV.
Mr. Bas Dubois, Managing Director, Volvo Buses Benelux, said, “We are extremely happy that we can now share the fact that earlier this year, Transdev chose us as a partner to continue to electrify Utrecht. We have worked together for a long time, and it is very rewarding to see it result in an order for 46 electric buses.”
The new buses will introduce a completely redesigned front and advanced features aimed at enhancing driver comfort and safety. This includes an upgraded driver’s station with a dynamic instrument cluster and an intuitive control panel to help drivers stay focused and minimize distractions. Equipped with Volvo Buses’ latest active safety systems, these buses emphasize the protection of vulnerable road users, including pedestrians and cyclists. Additionally, the agreement with Transdev includes a Usable Energy Commitment, where Volvo Buses guarantees the necessary energy supply to operate the buses over the next decade.
“In order to operate electric buses, you need to take into account several different parameters that affect energy consumption, and with the Usable Energy Commitment, we ensure Transdev will get the energy they need to run their operation,” says Bas Dubois. “Overall, this order shows the confidence Transdev has in Volvo Buses as a strong partner for operating electrified public transport.”
The buses are scheduled to go into service in Utrecht on the morning of 14 December 2025. The chassis will be manufactured in Volvo Buses’ plant in Borås, Sweden and the bodies will be made by Volvo Buses’ partner MCV.
