Gurgaon/Pune – Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles (VECV) Ltd of Gurgaon, a commercial vehicle manufacturer has entered into partnership with KPIT Technologies Ltd of Pune, an IT Consulting and Product Engineering solutions Provider.

VECV will integrate their indigenously developed technology named Revelo, plug in hybrid vehicle, initially they plan to modify and use it in skyline Pro Platform.

It will be manufactured at the company's plant at Pithampur in Madhya Pradesh. The bus will have a range of 177 kms with air-conditioning on. The technology will be adapted on the 9-metre long bus. It will have a capability to regenerate 36% energy, which will lead to less than 0.8unit electricity per km.

Vinod Aggarwal, Managing Director, VE Commercial Vehicle Ltd said “With the electrification technology and the buses being developed in India, these vehicles truly embody the ‘Made in India, for India’ promise”.

"Electrification is clearly the future. The shift to EV technology is opening up a number of opportunities for the economy. Along with the supporting policy framework, the EVs will have a positive impact on the entire ecosystem," Aggarwal said.

KPIT was co-founded in 1990. The company made its initial public offer (IPO) in 1999. In 2002, Cummins Infotech, the IT arm of Cummins Inc. merged with KPIT and the name of the company became KPIT Cummins Infosystems Ltd. It changed its name to "KPIT Technologies Limited" in September 2013. This was in line with Cummins' decision to reduce its shareholding in KPIT to focus on its core business of engine and generator manufacturing. KPIT provides product engineering and IT consulting services, solutions, and products to following industries - Automotive and Transportation, Energy and Resources, Consumer and Industrial Goods, High Tech, Life Sciences, and Utilities.

Revolo kit, which was designed for cars and SUVs, has been successfully adapted for the bus segment through this partnership with KPIT. Revolo comprises an architecture that enables a lower voltage and significant amount of electricity regeneration to deliver optimum mileage from the same battery size. The system uses lithium-ion batteries. It further ensures that the AC operations are independent of the kilometres driven and the range isn’t impacted with halts or stops during the journey.
