Volvo Trucks enters Malay market
The Malaysian government aims to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 is electrifying the country's road transportation system.

Kuala Lumpur- Volvo Trucks., of Volvo AB’s battery-electric truck product is now venturing into the lands of Malaysia, where the logistics company Swift Haulage Berhad has procured two Volvo FM Electric trucks. The Malaysian government aims to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 is electrifying the country's road transportation system.
Anthony O’Connell, Managing Director for Volvo Trucks in Malaysia said that the company has a market share o f 21% in with respect to heavy trucks which would play a crucial role in lowering the carbon emissions from the Transport sector by reducing the climate impact and enhancing safety for the road users and the drivers.
Loo Yong Hui, Chief Executive Officer at Swift Haulage Berhad Group, said. “I am proud to announce that Swift will be the first haulage company in Malaysia to acquire and incorporate electric trucks into our fleet. Looking forward, we are committed to converting the majority of our fleet to EVs by 2030.”
In 2019, Volvo Trucks became one of the initial companies in the world to begin producing heavy-duty electric trucks in scale. The company has a large electric lineup comprising six model electric heavy trucks. Three of these models will first be offered for sale in Malaysia.
By 2030, Volvo Trucks aims to sell 50% of its new trucks that way globally. Till now Volvo has sold around 5,000 electric trucks in about 40 different nations across Europe, North America, Asia, Latin America, and Africa.
