New Delhi- Continental AG., a premium tyre manufacturer, has announced a strategic shift in its India operations, focusing exclusively on the Passenger Car and Light Truck (PLT) tyre segment. As part of this realignment, the company will discontinue its Truck and Bus Radial (TBR) tyre business, including the dedicated TBR production line at its Modipuram plant in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.

The move comes in response to evolving market demands and a comprehensive business review aimed at securing Continental’s long-term competitiveness in the Asia-Pacific region. The decision reflects the company’s commitment to profitable growth and strengthening its presence in India’s premium PLT tyre market.

Given the highly competitive and price-sensitive nature of the TBR segment in India, Continental found sustaining long-term value in the segment increasingly challenging. Production of TBR tyres in India will cease by June 2025.

To support impacted employees, Continental will offer career counselling, explore internal and external job opportunities, and roll out a voluntary retirement and separation scheme.

Despite the exit from the TBR business, India remains a key market for Continental. The company will continue to expand its local PLT tyre portfolio and manufacturing footprint to meet future growth. Continental’s India operations include a tyre plant for passenger and light truck tyres in Modipuram, sales and distribution headquarters in Faridabad, and a recently opened IT Hub in Bengaluru.
