Bangalore - ABB India Limited., an automation provider, has launched its first locally manufactured ultra-premium efficiency IE5 motor range and announced an investment of over ₹140 crore (around USD 15.7 million) to expand and modernize its Low Voltage (LV) motors manufacturing facility. The move strengthens India’s position as a hub for global innovation in industrial energy efficiency.
The IE5 motors, with power ratings from 45 kW to 1000 kW, are built on proven induction motor technology and do not rely on rare-earth metals. They offer up to 40% lower energy losses compared to IE3 motors, resulting in faster ROI, reduced total cost of ownership, and longer operational life.
Mr. Stefan Floeck, President – IEC Low Voltage Motors, ABB, said, “ABB’s strategic investment is about more than just increasing capacity — it reinforces our vision for India as a global manufacturing hub. With rising demand for energy-efficient solutions, these motors help customers operate leaner and cleaner.”
Custom-engineered for Indian conditions, the motors can operate with both Direct-On-Line (DOL) and Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) systems. They are suitable for industries such as metals, cement, textiles, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, and paper.
Mr. Sanjeev Arora, President – Motion Business & IEC Low Voltage Motors, ABB India, said, “These motors combine the reliability of proven induction technology with ultra-premium efficiency, all without rare-earth metals. They reflect our commitment to sustainable, high-performance solutions designed for local conditions and India’s industrial decarbonization goals.”
This launch and investment reinforce ABB’s 75-year legacy in India and underscore the company’s focus on energy efficiency, technological excellence, and sustainable growth.
