Gujarat - Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL)., a mining company, has launched India’s first hydrogen-powered truck. The initiative marks a significant milestone in the country’s push for cleaner and more efficient transportation in the mining sector.

The hydrogen fuel cell truck was officially flagged off by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai in Raipur. It will be deployed for transporting coal from the Gare Pelma III Block to the state's power plant. This marks the beginning of a phased transition from diesel-powered vehicles to zero-emission alternatives in Adani’s logistics operations.

Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, said, “This launch reflects Chhattisgarh’s commitment to sustainability. Our state is not just meeting the nation’s electricity demands but also leading the way in adopting eco-friendly practices.”

Developed in collaboration with Indian and international energy technology partners and a leading automobile manufacturer, the hydrogen truck features advanced smart technology and three hydrogen tanks. Each vehicle can carry up to 40 tons of cargo and offers a range of 200 kilometers on a single fill.

The project is a joint effort between Adani Natural Resources (ANR) and Adani New Industries Limited (ANIL), both subsidiaries of Adani Enterprises. ANR will operate the trucks, while ANIL supplies the hydrogen fuel cells. ANIL is also engaged in manufacturing green hydrogen, solar modules, wind turbines, and batteries, supporting the group's broader decarbonization strategy.

Dr. Vinay Prakash, CEO of Natural Resources and Director, Adani Enterprises, said, “Adani Group is committed to responsible mining with minimal environmental impact. From autonomous dozer push technologies and solar power to digital tools and tree transplanters, we’re building model mines that balance development with sustainability.”

Hydrogen-powered vehicles produce only water vapor and warm air, cutting harmful emissions and noise. Matching diesel trucks in performance, they offer a cleaner solution for heavy-duty logistics. Adani’s hydrogen initiative supports India’s climate goals, reduces oil imports, and boosts energy security. With this launch, Adani also becomes Asia’s first to adopt semi-autonomous dozer push technology in mining, enhancing safety and sustainability.
