AEM Develops Advanced E-Motor for Commercial Vehicles

Washington, United Kingdom- Advanced Electric Machines Limited., (AEM) a manufacturer of sustainable, magnet-free electric motors, has introduced the second generation of its innovative solution for heavy-duty and commercial vehicle applications. The new HDRM300C further cements AEM’s leadership in rare-earth-free motor technology, delivering enhanced performance and improved efficiency.

Building on the success of the HDRM150, where AEM pioneered its innovative coil compression technology, the HDRM300C marks a significant leap forward in electric motor design. It achieves industry-leading conductor slot fill rates of over 80%, a substantial improvement over conventional wire layouts that typically remain below 60%. By scaling up and refining this proven technology from the HDRM150, the HDRM300C offers superior power density and efficiency, setting a new benchmark in sustainable motor innovation.

Mr. James Widmer, CEO of Advanced Electric Machines, said, “The HDRM300C represents more than just an incremental improvement in motor technology. By combining our patented coil compression technology with enhanced thermal management and improved speed capabilities, we’re delivering a motor that sets new benchmarks for efficiency and performance. For the transportation industry, this means more capable electric vehicles that are more cost effective to operate and maintain.”

The HDRM300C offers more than just enhanced performance it brings greater flexibility and reliability. Its higher speed capability allows seamless system integration across various applications, while new plug-in connectors simplify installation and maintenance. Upgraded bearings and reinforced busbar connections ensure durability at higher operational speeds.

An improved cooling system, similar to a car radiator, enables longer, more efficient operation crucial for commercial vehicles handling heavy loads and steep inclines. Trial units roll out in March 2025, with full production set for Q4 2025, marking a major step in AEM’s mission to redefine sustainable electric motor technology.
