Chennai- Ashok Leyland Limited., of the Hinduja Group Limited., a manufacturer of commercial and defence vehicles, has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PT Pindad, Indonesia’s state-owned defence and industrial equipment company. The agreement was signed at PT Pindad’s headquarters in Bandung, signalling a stronger India- Indonesia partnership in sustainable mobility and advanced defence technologies.

Under the MoU, both companies will collaborate on the joint development and manufacturing of electric buses and defence vehicles designed specifically for Indonesia’s mobility and national security needs. The partnership will combine Ashok Leyland’s experience in commercial EV platforms and defence mobility solutions supported by its electric mobility subsidiary, Switch Mobility with Pindad’s engineering expertise, local manufacturing capabilities, and established role within Indonesia’s defence ecosystem.

The signing took place in the presence of Prof. Sigit P. Santosa, CEO of PT Pindad, Mr. Amandeep Singh, President – International Operations, Defence, LCV and PSB at Ashok Leyland, and Lord Tariq, Advisor to the Board at Hinduja Auto. The collaboration aligns with Indonesia’s ongoing push toward energy-efficient transportation, wider EV adoption, and increased localisation of defence manufacturing.

Mr. Amandeep Singh said Ashok Leyland has a long history of delivering dependable commercial and defence mobility solutions worldwide and noted that Switch Mobility has developed a broad portfolio of electric buses for global markets. He added that working with Pindad will help both sides create products tailored to Indonesia’s terrain, infrastructure, and operational requirements.
