Lucknow- Ashok Leyland, the commercial vehicle manufacturer in India and the flagship of the Hinduja Group, marked a significant achievement today with the groundbreaking ceremony for a new integrated commercial vehicle plant dedicated to green mobility in Uttar Pradesh.

During the ceremony held at the new factory site on Kanpur Road, Lucknow, the Honorable Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Yogi Adityanath, unveiled the Foundation Plaque and laid the Foundation stone. The event was attended by key dignitaries, including the Minister of Finance & Parliamentary Affairs, Government of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Suresh Khanna, and the Minister for Industrial Development, Export Promotion, NRI, and Investment Promotion, Government of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Nand Gopal Gupta. Also present were senior members of the Hinduja family, Ashok Leyland's dealers, customers, suppliers, and various other dignitaries.

The new greenfield manufacturing facility, spanning 70 acres, will be equipped with the latest manufacturing technology, making it Ashok Leyland's most modern and environmentally friendly factory worldwide. The facility is committed to maintaining world-class quality standards, with a primary focus on the production of electric buses. Additionally, it will have the capability to manufacture other vehicles powered by existing and emerging alternative fuels.

Mr. Dheeraj Hinduja, Executive Chairman of Ashok Leyland said, The Foundation Stone laying ceremony marks the commencement of a new era for Ashok Leyland in Uttar Pradesh. Once operational, the facility will positively impact our shared goals of creating job opportunities and promoting sustainable mobility in India. We are dedicated to fostering innovation and setting new standards in green mobility. With this new plant, we are positioning ourselves for the future and progressing toward our Net Zero emissions objectives. Mr. Shenu Agarwal, MD & CEO of Ashok Leyland said, This facility will not only meet the increasing demand for electric vehicles but also contribute significantly to the comprehensive development of the region. Our emphasis on electric trucks and buses aligns with the changing landscape of sustainable transportation, propelling us closer to a future of green mobility.

Upon becoming operational, the plant will initially produce 2500 vehicles per year, with Ashok Leyland aiming to double this capacity to 5000 vehicles annually within the next decade, in anticipation of the rising demand for electric and other vehicle types.
