Chennai/Bangladesh - Commercial vehicle manufacturer, Ashok Leyland Ltd of Chennai, and flagship subsidiary of the Hinduja Group, announced receipt an order from Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) to supply some 200 single decker and 300 double deck buses after winning a tender. Buses are to be delivered in the next financial year (ie April 2019 to March 2020) as completely built-up (CBU) units from India.

Single deck buses are to have full air conditioning and these are to be a range of city and intercity units. These and the double decker buses  are to operate on the demanding streets of Dhaka. Ashok Leyland received an order for 200 buses in August and another 300 buses this month.

Mr. Vinod K. Dasari, managing director, Ashok Leyland Ltd, remarked: "Bangladesh is one of our key export markets and this order further strengthens our position. This order win in Bangladesh is yet another testimony of our leadership in the country. Our in-depth understanding of public transport and understanding of the market and customers is what differentiates us and has helped us win this order.

“Exports has been a strong focus for us to de-risk our business from the cyclicality of the Indian market and to globalize our product portfolio. This is a significant win for us and builds on the strong export growth we had last year”
