Shanghai, China - Auto Shanghai 2025, held from April 25 to May 2 in Shanghai, is organized by the Shanghai Council for the Promotion of International Trade and industry bodies. Focused on the theme "Embracing Innovation, Empowering the Future," it showcases global launches and promotes collaboration, innovation, and growth in the automotive industry.

Volkswagen Group., an automobile manufacturer, will unveil three next-generation ICV concepts, showcasing innovative technologies and a progressive design language that embodies the brand's new DNA, specifically tailored for the Chinese market.

The Volkswagen Anhui ID. UNYX is a compact electric coupe SUV built on the MEB platform, designed for the Chinese market. It offers a choice of rear-wheel-drive (170 kW) and all-wheel-drive (250 kW) configurations, with a range of up to 614 km on a full charge. The vehicle features a 80.2 kWh battery, fast charging capabilities, and a 0-100 km/h time of 7.7 seconds (or 5.6 seconds for the AWD variant). The ID. UNYX boasts a sleek design with a sloping roofline, 21-inch wheels, and advanced tech, including the ID. S 5.0 system, IQ.Drive safety features, and a spacious interior.

FAW-Volkswagen's first CMP-based A-Main notchback BEV concept, the ID.AURA built on the affordable China Main Platform (CMP), it offers flexible battery capacities (40–80 kWh) and rear-wheel-drive as standard, with potential all-wheel-drive options. The ID.AURA targets cost-conscious A-segment consumers in China, featuring advanced technology like the China Electronic Architecture (CEA) co-developed with XPeng Motors. With a wheelbase of 2,771 mm, the ID.AURA combines affordability with innovation for the Chinese market.

SAIC VOLKSWAGEN's first extended-range (EREV) B-SUV concept, the ID.ERA combines electric and gasoline power, offering an electric range of 300 km and a total range of over 1,000 km. With a bold design and a focus on luxury and comfort, the ID.ERA is equipped with advanced technologies for an enhanced driving experience.

Mr. Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG, said, “China is an important market for the Volkswagen Group. Two years ago, we realigned our strategy. And we have made progress faster than initially planned. Our products are tailored to the needs of Chinese customers: with a clear design language and cutting-edge technologies. The Shanghai Auto Show is another milestone on our strategic path: we want to be the global tech driver for the automotive industry by 2035.”

Audi AG., a luxury car manufacturer, debuts of the Audi A5L, A5L Sportback, Q5L, and A6L e-tron and the AUDI E5 Sportback.

The next-generation Audi A5L, produced by FAW Audi, features a 77 mm longer wheelbase compared to the global versions, offering more interior space. It comes with ultra-modern combustion engines with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology, ensuring superior performance and efficiency. The car includes a human-centric interior with the MMI panoramic display and a passenger display as standard in China.

The Audi A5L Sportback, revealed by SAIC Audi, shares the same advanced Premium Platform Combustion, with performance-focused engine variants and cutting-edge driver-assistance functions. Its design, especially the rear, showcases dynamic Audi Sportback proportions.

The Audi Q5L also uses the Premium Platform Combustion, with engines featuring 48-volt mild-hybrid technology for enhanced performance. Its 125 mm longer wheelbase compared to the global model provides significantly more interior space.

The Audi A6L e-tron, based on the Premium Platform Electric, is the third all-electric model locally produced at the Audi FAW NEV Company. It boasts a 132 mm longer wheelbase than the global model, offering greater comfort and space, particularly in the second row. With a 107-kWh battery, it achieves a range of up to 770 kilometers and benefits from 800-volt technology for fast charging.

The AUDI E5 Sportback, developed in partnership with SAIC, integrates Audi's DNA with China's digital ecosystem. This fully electric mid-size Sportback offers up to 579 kW of power, reaching 0-100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds and a range of up to 770 kilometers.

Mr. Gernot Dollner CEO of Audi, said, “At Auto Shanghai we are kicking off our strongest ever model initiative. Together with our two local partners FAW and SAIC, we are launching next-generation China-dedicated models. And with our new China-only brand AUDI we are reaching additional customer segments. Thanks to our all-new battery-electric and combustion-engine vehicles, we will actively shape the growing premium e-mobility market in China as well as the market for conventionally powered cars.”

BMW Group., a premium cars manufacturer, showcased the BMW M4 Edition Nurburgring and BMW M235L Gran Coupe.

The BMW M4 Edition Nurburgring is a limited-edition model celebrating BMW M's 53rd anniversary and its collaboration with the Nürburgring. Available only in China, with just 53 units produced, it features a 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six engine producing 530 PS (523 hp) and 650 Nm of torque. The M4 accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds (3.2 with 1-foot rollout) and has a top speed of 250 km/h. Design highlights include a unique Frozen Deep Green color, hand-painted M racing stripes, red accents, and carbon bucket seats.

The BMW M235L Gran Coupe is a China-exclusive M Performance model with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine delivering 300 hp and 400 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and xDrive all-wheel drive. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 5.0 seconds. With a 110 mm longer wheelbase for enhanced rear-seat comfort, the M235L features M Adaptive suspension, M Sport brakes, and a mechanical Torsen limited-slip differential. Inside, it offers M-specific sport seats and a curved display with iDrive 9.

Mr. Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, said, "Innovative strength, a pioneering spirit and sheer driving pleasure - these characteristics are deeply rooted in BMW's DNA. In the Neue Klasse, they can be experienced by our customers on a whole new level: the user interface is even more intuitive, the design even more progressive and the driving experience even more precise and dynamic. By the end of this year, we will be putting the mobility of the future on the road.”

Mercedes-Benz Group AG., formerly Daimler AG, a multinational automotive company, showcases Vision V and CLA models.

The Mercedes-Benz Vision V is a luxury electric van concept, built on the new VAN.EA platform. It offers up to 700 km of range with an 800-volt system for rapid charging. The Vision V is available in single or dual-motor configurations and features a 65-inch retractable rear display, a 42-speaker surround sound system, and reconfigurable rear seats that transform into beds. It also includes dynamic ambient lighting and seven projectors for an immersive experience. Production is set to begin in 2026, with manufacturing in Vitoria, Spain.

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz CLA is a compact luxury sedan featuring a sleek design with a drag coefficient of just 0.21 for improved aerodynamics. Built on the Mercedes Modular Architecture (MMA) platform, it offers both electric and hybrid powertrains. The CLA 250+ electric version has an all-electric range of up to 792 km (492 miles), while the CLA 350 hybrid combines a 2.0L turbocharged engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system, producing 354 hp. Inside, it features a 10.25-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Production begins in 2026, with the CLA debuting in China and Europe.

Shenzhen Yangwang Automobile Sales Co., Ltd., a luxury electric vehicle sub-brand of BYD, unveiled its new U8L SUV (sport utility vehicle), boasts a powerful four-motor EREV powertrain delivering 880 kW (1,177 hp) and 1,280 Nm of torque, achieving 0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. It features a 49.05 kWh battery with a range of up to 1,000 km and offers advanced charging capabilities. The U8L's interior includes six luxurious seats, dual 23.6-inch screens, a 12.8-inch touchscreen, and a 22-speaker audio system. Equipped with over 30 ADAS features, including LiDAR and advanced driver assistance systems, it also offers off-road capabilities like water wading and tank turn functionality.

Voyah., a brand of Dongfeng Motor, unveiled the Voyah Free+, a PHEV SUV combining a 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor, producing 490 hp and 720 Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h time of 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 200 km/h. It features a 39-kWh battery for an all-electric range of up to 205 km, with fast-charging options for 20-80% in 45 minutes. The SUV’s dimensions include a length of 4,905 mm, width of 1,950 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,960 mm. With advanced safety features and a luxurious 5-seat interior, the Free+ blends performance and efficiency in an eco-friendly package.

MG Motor., an automotive company, unveiled the MG Cyber X, an all-electric SUV concept. Built on SAIC's new E3 platform, it features a boxy design with a length of around 4.3 meters. Key tech includes the Zebra 3.0 operating system, advanced connectivity with Oppo, and a Horizon Robotics J6 chip for semi-autonomous features. Its sleek exterior includes pop-up LED headlights, full-width light bars, and hidden door handles. While full specs are pending, the Cyber X is expected to launch by 2026 as a stylish, tech-forward vehicle for those seeking a rugged yet urban SUV.

NIO Inc., a brand of Shanghai Weilai Automobile Co., Ltd and an an automotive company, unveiled the 2025 NIO ET9 and Onvo L90 is a flagship electric SUV.

The 2025 NIO ET9 is a flagship all-electric sedan boasting a 900V architecture with peak charging capabilities of up to 600 kW, providing a 255 km range in just 5 minutes. It features a dual-motor AWD system delivering 520 kW (707 hp) and 700 Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h time of 4.3 seconds. Inside, it offers a luxurious 4-seat configuration with Nappa leather, a 15.6-inch center screen, and a 3D LYRA sound system. The ET9 is equipped with advanced NIO Aquila driver assistance, facial recognition, and a 4-zone climate system.

The Onvo L90 is a flagship electric SUV from Nio's sub-brand, featuring a dual-motor AWD system producing 440 kW (590 hp), with a top speed of 200 km/h. It is powered by an 85 kWh battery, offering ultra-fast charging and compatibility with Nio's battery swap stations. The L90’s dimensions include a length of 5,145 mm, width of 1,998 mm, and a wheelbase of 3,110 mm. It offers a three-row, six-seat configuration and a 240L front trunk. Equipped with advanced driver assistance systems, it will be launched in China in the third quarter of 2025.

Mr. William Li, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of NIO, said, “This is the first time the three brands: NIO, ONVO, and firefly, are collectively attending the auto show. We are very grateful for the strong support from NIO and ONVO user volunteers. In 2025, NIO is ushering in a year of technological harvest and is rapidly moving into a new product cycle, planning to launch nine models under its three brands. There will be a major new model for every quarter. On display at the NIO stand, are the achievements of NIO’s decade of technological innovation, culminating in the ET9 which represents the latest breakthroughs in global smart electric vehicles.”

Appotronics Corporation Limited., a laser display technology manufacturer, has introduced the Lingjing Intelligent Automotive Optical System, a full-surface projection solution for vehicles. It enables dynamic, high-brightness displays on interiors and exteriors, including windshields, dashboards, seats, and windows,  turning cars into adaptive 'digital emotional spaces.' Key features include multi-surface projection, four-window fusion display, AR-HUD support, smart surface integration, and interactive laser headlights, offering an immersive and responsive driving experience. Certified to automotive standards, the system is already integrated into models such as the AITO M9, STELATO S9, and Smart #5.

Mr. Yu Xin, Vice President of Appotronics, said, "We're moving beyond just supplying hardware to co-creating smart mobility experiences. By sharing our core technology platform, we're collaborating with carmakers and developers to unlock new ways AI and optical tech can work together. Our goal is to turn cars from simple transport into 'digital emotional spaces'—where every journey is tailored to its occupants, powered by AI and advanced laser tech."

Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota)., an automotive manufacturer, has expanding its battery electric vehicle (BEV) lineup in China as part of its multi-pathway approach toward achieving a carbon-neutral society.

The Toyota bZ7 is a flagship electric sedan developed jointly by Toyota, GAC, GTMC, and IEM by Toyota for the Chinese market. Built on the e-TNGA platform, it measures over five meters in length and is expected to offer rear- and all-wheel drive options, with outputs up to 500 hp. It will likely use BYD’s Blade LFP battery, providing a range of 500–600 km and fast-charging up to 150 kW. Featuring Huawei’s HarmonyOS infotainment system, a premium minimalist interior, and advanced driver assistance, the bZ7 is set for production by late 2025.

The all-new 2025 Lexus ES, available in hybrid (HEV) and battery electric (BEV) variants, features an updated TNGA GA-K platform with increased dimensions for more space and comfort. Powertrain options include the ES 300h and 350h hybrids, and the fully electric ES 350e and 500e, offering up to 685 km range. It showcases a luxurious interior with a 14-inch touchscreen, bamboo-textured panels, and a Mark Levinson sound system, alongside advanced safety tech with Lexus Safety System+ 2.5. 

Xpeng Motors., a brand of Guangzhou Xiaopeng Motors Technology Co., Ltd and an electric vehicle manufacturer, showcased the XPENG P7+, a fully AI-defined electric vehicle featuring the new 5C Supercharging AI Battery, enabling 420 km of range from just 10 minutes of charging. With an energy consumption of only 12.7 kWh per 100 km, it sets a new standard in fast-charging and energy efficiency. The P7+ delivers 230 kW (308 hp) of power, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, and offers a range of 685 km on a full charge. Its intelligent Hawk AI system optimizes driving, power management, and energy efficiency.

Baojun., a brand of SAIC-GM-Wuling, unveiled first intelligent flagship sedan Xiang Jing EV, available in all-electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions. The EV offers a 186-kW motor with a range of 600 km, while the PHEV combines a 1.5L turbo engine and electric motor for 186 kW total output and up to 1,100 km of range. The Xiang Jing features advanced driver-assistance systems and a spacious design with a 2,900 mm wheelbase. The EV stands at 1,490 mm high, and the PHEV at 1,505 mm.

Dongfeng Motor Corporation., an automotive manufacturer, showcased the Nammi 06, a compact electric SUV featuring a 135 kW (181 hp) front-mounted motor, offering a top speed of 150 km/h. With a range of 100 km in just 5 minutes of fast-charging, it has a length of 4,306 mm, width of 1,868 mm, and height of 1,645 mm, with a 2,715 mm wheelbase. The vehicle weighs around 1,975 kg.

Zhejiang Leapmotor Technology Co., Ltd., an automobile manufacturer, showcased its latest offerings: the B01 electric sedan and the B10 electric SUV, both built on the LEAP 3.5 platform.

The Leapmotor B01 is an electric sedan with dimensions of 4,770 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,490 mm in height, featuring a wheelbase of 2,735 mm and a kerb weight ranging from 1,660 to 1,711 kg. It offers two powertrain options: a 132 kW (177 hp) and a 160 kW (215 hp) motor. The B01 is powered by a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery from Gotion High-tech, CALB, or Zenergy, providing an estimated range of 500–600 km (CLTC) and supporting 3C fast-charging.

The Leapmotor B10 is an electric SUV equipped with two electric motor configurations and a 67.1 kWh battery, offering a range of approximately 500–600 km (CLTC). It supports fast-charging capabilities. The B10 features smart-driving capabilities and LiDAR integration, making it an advanced option in the electric SUV market. It is targeted at both the Chinese and European markets.

Zeekr Intelligent Technology Holding Limited., an automobile company owned by Geely Automobile Holdings, showcased its flagship 9X SUV, a full-size luxury hybrid SUV combining a 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine with dual electric motors, offering around 500–600 hp. It features a 67.1 kWh battery with an electric-only range of over 380 km and Level 3 autonomous driving capabilities powered by dual Nvidia Thor chips and LiDAR sensors. The 9X supports ultra-fast charging with peak power of 1.3 MW and offers a luxurious interior for seven passengers.

Radar New Energy Vehicle (Zhejiang) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Geely Auto, unveiled its next-generation RD6 PHEV hybrid pickup. The vehicle combines a 1.5L gasoline engine with an electric motor, offering a thermal efficiency of 44.26% and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds. It reduces energy consumption by 21% compared to diesel vehicles and is designed to cater to markets with limited charging infrastructure, such as West Asia, Africa, and South America.

Mazda Motor Corporation (Mazda)., an automobile company, showcased all-new MAZDA EZ-60, an electric crossover SUV available in both BEV and EREV configurations. It features a 175 kW (235 hp) electric motor in the BEV version and a 190 kW (255 hp) motor with a 1.5L gasoline generator in the EREV version. The BEV offers a range of 520–620 km, while the EREV provides 160 km on electric power alone. It has a 66.8 kWh NMC battery (BEV) and a 31.7 kWh LFP battery (EREV), fast-charging capabilities, a 26.45-inch 5K display, and advanced driver assistance systems. With a cargo capacity of up to 2,036 L, the EZ-60 is set to launch in China in August 2025.
