Bowden, Canada - Bearco Machinery., a farm equipment manufacturer, has started production of three simple Ursa Ag tractors with power outputs ranging from 150 hp to 260 hp.
The tractors are designed as low-cost alternatives to modern high-tech machines, which Bearco owner Doug Wilson says have become too expensive to buy and maintain. The Ursa Ag models use fewer electronics, mechanical controls and simple hydraulic systems so local mechanics can service them easily.
The entry-level Ursa Ag 150 is powered by a 5.9-liter six-cylinder Cummins engine producing 150 hp. The Ursa Ag 180 uses the same platform but delivers 180 hp. Both tractors weigh 6,000 kg.
The larger Ursa Ag 260 is powered by an 8.3-liter Cummins engine producing 260 hp. It weighs 8,600 kg and is fitted with a Carraro front axle.
Bearco uses remanufactured engines to keep prices low. The Ursa Ag 150 is priced at about USD 95,000, the Ursa Ag 180 at USD 109,600, and the Ursa Ag 260 at USD 146,200.
