Mysuru- BEML Limited., has unveiled India’s first indigenously designed and developed 60-ton electric dump truck, the BH60-EV, at its Mysuru manufacturing complex. The launch marks a major advancement in India's efforts to introduce sustainable, high-capacity electric equipment for mining and infrastructure applications.

The next-generation electric dump truck was virtually launched by Shri Shantanu Roy, Chairman and Managing Director of BEML Limited, in the presence of functional directors, senior officials and employees.

Developed at BEML’s Mysuru facility, the BH60-EV combines advanced electric powertrain technology, high payload capacity and enhanced operator safety features. The vehicle is designed to meet the demanding operational requirements of mining and infrastructure projects while reducing dependence on conventional diesel-powered machinery.

The BH60-EV is equipped with a high-performance Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) integrated with a heavy-duty gearbox and a 1,000 kWh high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack.

The electric powertrain delivers high torque and strong tractive performance, enabling the truck to operate efficiently under demanding mining conditions, including steep gradients and heavy-load applications.

The truck offers a payload capacity of 54.5 tonnes with a rock body configuration and a body volume of 36.4 cubic metres. Its electric propulsion system is engineered to provide improved energy efficiency, responsive acceleration and reliable performance during continuous heavy-duty operations.

One of the major advantages of the BH60-EV is its potential to significantly reduce operating expenses compared with conventional diesel dump trucks.

According to BEML, the electric dump truck is designed to deliver 40–60% lower operating costs, depending on operating conditions and utilisation patterns.

The company also estimates that each vehicle could help reduce approximately 130 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, subject to operating conditions.

By eliminating tailpipe emissions during operation, the BH60-EV supports the mining and infrastructure sectors in their transition towards cleaner equipment and more sustainable operating practices.

Alongside the electric dump truck, BEML offers an integrated charging station solution designed to suit different site electrical infrastructure requirements.

The charging system can be scaled to support fleet operations, allowing mining and infrastructure companies to adopt electric heavy-duty equipment with charging facilities tailored to their operational needs.

This approach is intended to support the wider deployment of electric mining vehicles and reduce challenges associated with charging infrastructure availability.

The BH60-EV incorporates several features aimed at improving operational safety, reliability and driver comfort.

Its spacious and ergonomically designed operator cabin is equipped with a Roll-Over Protective Structure (ROPS), emergency steering and sealed oil-cooled disc brakes.

These systems are designed to provide enhanced protection and controlled vehicle operation in demanding mining environments.

Speaking at the launch, Shri Shantanu Roy highlighted the importance of indigenous engineering and advanced battery technology in developing high-capacity electric equipment for industrial applications.

He stated that the BH60-EV reflects BEML’s capabilities in developing next-generation electric mobility solutions while addressing the performance, safety and sustainability requirements of the mining and infrastructure sectors.
