Horstmar, Germany- Schmitz Cargobull AG., a manufacturer of semi-trailers, trailers, and truck bodies, and Berger Fahrzeugtechnik GesmbH, in design, manufacturing, and distribution of lightweight semi-trailers, have introduced a new trailer series under the banner of the Evolution generation. Debuting at the prestigious transport logistic trade fair in Munich, this collaboration combines BERGER’s ultra-light BERGERecotrail chassis with Schmitz Cargobull’s versatile and durable body technology, resulting in one of the lightest and most efficient trailer series on the market today.
The Evolution generation marks a significant advancement in trailer design, with the PerformanceCoil as its flagship model. With an entry-level unladen weight of just 4.8 tonnes, the Evolution generation is engineered for maximum payload and fuel efficiency, supporting industries like beverage, automotive, tyre, chemical (octabin), and grain transport.
Mr. Gerhard Berger, co-founder of BERGERecotrail, said, “Lightweight, high-precision, hand-crafted – these aren’t trends. They’re part of our DNA. We are driven by the search for better solutions. Together with Schmitz Cargobull, we have combined the best of two worlds – our ultra-light chassis and the extremely functional body created by the market leader.”
Designed specifically for steel and metal coil transport, the PerformanceCoil features a coil trough of 8,200 mm, accommodating coil diameters from 800 to 2,100 mm. Its chassis, constructed from high-strength S700 fine grain steel and shaped using an innovative Reuleaux triangle-based frame design, offers unmatched stability with minimal weight.
Further enhancing the trailer’s performance is the optional POWER CURTAIN – a certified, structural tarpaulin with aramid belts that offers a maximum payload of up to 27.5 tonnes, contributing to lower fuel consumption and reduced emissions.
The Schmitz Cargobull POWER CURTAIN body, with built-in anti-theft fabric, vertical and horizontal reinforcements, and no need for side support laths, meets DIN EN 12642 Code XL standards – including specific beverage transport certification.
This design simplifies and speeds up loading and unloading while reducing trailer weight. With features like the safety roof, VARIOS height-adjustment system, anodised aluminium panels, and galvanised corner posts, the trailers are robust, durable, and highly adaptable.
