Inspired by the legendary BMW R 80 G/S from 1980, this latest model seamlessly blends classic enduro aesthetics with cutting-edge technology, offering a superior riding experience for both on-road and off-road enthusiasts.
The launch of the BMW R 80 G/S in 1980 revolutionized the enduro market by introducing a production off-road motorcycle that combined adventure, touring capabilities, and dynamic road performance. The new BMW R 12 G/S carries this legacy forward, capturing the spirit of the original while incorporating state-of-the-art engineering and design enhancements.
The BMW R 12 G/S features a classic enduro design with a small, compact cockpit fairing, long suspension travel, and cross-spoke wheels. The ergonomics are tailored for both adventure touring and off-road challenges, with three different seat options, sure-footed enduro footrests, and adjustable handlebar risers for maximum comfort and control.
Standard configurations include a flat solo seat with a height of 860 mm (or 875 mm with the Enduro Package Pro). Optional packages, such as the Pillion Package and Rallye Seat, offer increased versatility for different riding styles and preferences.
BMW R 12 G/S lies a powerful air/oil-cooled 1,170 cc boxer engine that delivers 80 kW (109 hp) at 7,000 rpm and a peak torque of 115 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The engine’s left-hand exhaust system with a high-mounted rear silencer ensures optimal off-road capability and a distinctive sound profile.
The BMW R 12 G/S boasts advanced technology for superior performance across various terrains. It comes with standard riding modes—"Rain," "Road," and "Enduro"—while the optional "Enduro Pro" mode enhances off-road capabilities. Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) improves safety and control during acceleration, with the option to disable it for off-road riding. Engine Drag Torque Control (MSR) provides added stability by managing engine braking forces, and the optional Shift Assistant Pro allows clutchless upshifting and downshifting for smoother gear changes, enhancing both comfort and acceleration.
The BMW R 12 G/S boasts a one-piece tubular bridge steel spaceframe with a bolted-on rear frame, optimized for off-road maneuverability. The suspension system includes a fully adjustable upside-down telescopic fork at the front with 210 mm of travel, complemented by a Paralever swingarm with an adjustable rear shock absorber featuring 200 mm of travel.
For enhanced off-road capability, the bike comes standard with a 21-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel, with the option to upgrade to an 18-inch rear wheel through the Enduro Package Pro.
The BMW R 12 G/S features a robust braking system with a front twin disc brake (2-piston floating calipers, 310 mm discs) and a rear single disc brake (2-piston floating caliper, 265 mm disc), complemented by BMW Motorrad ABS Pro for enhanced safety even while cornering. Its cutting-edge lighting and instrumentation include a centrally positioned round instrument panel for essential ride information, a 12V socket for accessories, and a compact LED headlight with an iconic "X" light signature. The optional Headlight Pro package adds an adaptive headlight for improved nighttime visibility. Riders can also personalize their bike with three striking color options: Night Black Matt for a sleek, understated look, Light White with bold red seat accents, and the premium Option 719 Aragonit, which combines Sandrover, Racing Red, and Mineral Grey metallic matt for a distinctive finish.
