This extension is for BorgWarner to manufacture variable cam timing (VCT) engine components for vehicle manufacturers to meet upcoming emission regulations.
Date: September 20, 2018Chennai / USA – BorgWarner Morse System Pvt Ltd1 of Chennai, a wholly owned subsidiary of BorgWarner Inc of USA, has expanded its facility in Kakkalur, Tamil Nadu, as part of its strategy to strengthen its presence in India and Southeast Asia.
A new manufacturing space of 1,500 square metres consisting of engineering, manufacturing and office areas as well as warehouse space adds to the current 35,100 sq m space in Kakkalur, Thiruvallur, near Chennai. This extension is for BorgWarner to manufacture variable cam timing (VCT) engine components for vehicle manufacturers to meet upcoming emission regulations. It has a designed capacity to produce three million automotive chains a year. Borgwarner’s engineering team provides support to its customers from initial design through to detailed integration of on-line engine production of its VCT systems.
R Murai, director and plant manager, BorgWarner Morse Systems India Pvt Ltd, said: “A lot of OEMs are refreshing their products and most of them are trying to bring new engines for their vehicles, both for new and old. They are also upgrading their engines for new emission norms. These new engine programmes will drive our growth.”

It designs and manufactures engine timing components including silent and roller chains, tensioners, arms and guides as well as phasers and controls to support variable valve timing applications for passenger cars, light commercial vehicles and motorcycles.
