Auburn Hills, United States – BorgWarner Inc., an American supplier of automotive and e-mobility solutions, has secured a contract with a major North American-based OEM to deliver its 400V SW130 (S-wind) eMotor. The eMotor will be used in a new lineup of hybrid full-sized trucks and SUVs, with production scheduled to begin in Q2 2028.

This agreement strengthens the global footprint of BorgWarner’s high-voltage, high-volume S-wind eMotor technology. The SW130 is engineered as a high-voltage alternator replacement and features a continuous rectangular winding design that enhances power efficiency and performance in a compact package.

Unlike traditional hairpin motors, the SW130 employs a radial wire insertion technique, minimizing welding points by over 90%. This compressed, material-efficient design supports greater scalability, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness while reducing the motor's packaging size.

Specifically tailored for hybrid applications, the power-dense SW130 features a 130mm stator diameter and a 65mm stack length, enabling optimized peak torque performance while improving noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) characteristics.

Dr. Stefan Demmerle, President and General Manager of BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems, said, “BorgWarner has been closely collaborating with this OEM, providing continuous, valuable feedback to develop an S-wind eMotor solution that meets specific application requirements. This business agreement is a direct reflection of our engineering team’s technical expertise, from writing specifications for design with packaging constraints to manufacturing to implementation. We are looking forward to deepening our relationship with this highly reputable OEM.”
