BYD Unveils Super e-Platform with 5-Minute EV Flash Charging

Shenzhen, China- BYD Auto Co., Ltd. has unveiled its Super e-Platform, redefining EV mobility with record-breaking charging speeds and ultra-high voltage architecture. Its Flash Charging Battery delivers 1 megawatt (1000 kW) of power, enabling a peak speed of 2 km of range per second. With just 5 minutes of charging, drivers can achieve 400 km of range, matching gasoline refueling times.

The Flash Charging Battery features ultra-fast ion channels that reduce internal resistance by 50%, allowing the battery to handle 1000A of charging current and achieve a 10C charging rate, both of which are world records for mass-produced EV batteries.

BYD’s full-domain 1000V high-voltage architecture is the first of its kind in mass production, bringing all core components including the battery, motor, power supply, and air conditioning up to 1000V. This ultra-high voltage and current combination makes megawatt-level charging possible, significantly reducing charging times and alleviating "charging anxiety" for EV owners.

The Super e-Platform also features the world’s first mass-produced 30,000 RPM motor, designed to boost vehicle speed while reducing weight and size. According to Luo Hongbin, Senior Vice President of BYD, this motor significantly increases power density and overall efficiency, enhancing both performance and energy utilization.

To support the platform's ultra-high power, BYD has developed the industry’s first automotive-grade silicon carbide (SiC) power chips with a voltage rating of up to 1500V. These chips improve power conversion efficiency, reduce energy loss, and enhance the vehicle’s overall performance, making the platform the most powerful and efficient in its class.

To accommodate the Megawatt Flash Charging technology, BYD has unveiled the world’s first all-liquid-cooled Megawatt Flash Charging terminal system, capable of delivering up to 1360 kW of charging power. BYD plans to build over 4,000 Megawatt Flash Charging stations across China, significantly enhancing the EV charging infrastructure.

Additionally, BYD introduced its dual-gun charging technology, which can instantly upgrade existing supercharging stations into flash-charging stations, making the transition to faster charging more seamless. The intelligent voltage boost technology ensures compatibility with public fast-charging stations, offering convenience and flexibility for EV owners.

The Han L and Tang L are the first two models equipped with BYD’s Super e-Platform. Both vehicles offer exceptional performance, with a single-module single-motor power of 580 kW and a top speed exceeding 300 km/h. These models are now available for pre-order in China and are expected to officially launch in April 2025.
