Ningde, China- CATL, together with JD.com and GAC Group, has officially launched the AION UT Super, a model positioned as the “People’s Great Car.” Buyers can choose between a traditional full-vehicle purchase or a battery-leasing model, lowering the initial ownership threshold and making high-quality electric mobility more accessible.
The AION UT Super integrates CATL’s advanced battery technology and swapping ecosystem, JD.com’s strengths in user insights, sales and maintenance, and GAC’s vehicle engineering and manufacturing expertise. Enabled by the Choco-Swap system, the vehicle delivers a range of 500 kilometers and supports ultra-fast battery swapping in just 99 seconds. This setup directly tackles common concerns such as long charging times, high upfront expenditure, and worries about long-term battery degradation, offering a more efficient and economical travel solution.
From 2026 onward, CATL’s Naxtra sodium-ion battery will first be introduced in vehicle models compatible with the Choco-Swap platform, further expanding the technology roadmap of the ecosystem.
Buyers of the AION UT Super can also enjoy three key categories of benefits:
- Cashback: Early purchasers receive car-buying subsidies, with additional digital rewards available for eligible JD.com PLUS members.
- Value-add: For a limited time, customers opting for the battery-leasing model can benefit from reduced monthly battery rental fees, while JD.com PLUS users receive a package of complimentary Choco-Swap service vouchers.
- Price protection: A 180-day price protection policy guarantees that if the official vehicle price is adjusted within six months after delivery, buyers are compensated based on the price difference, encouraging confident early purchases.
In parallel, the “national battery-swapping” network is expanding at speed. On November 8, the 800th Choco-Swap station in China was inaugurated near the Daming Palace Scenic Area in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province. Current plans target 1,000 Choco-Swap stations in 45 cities by the end of 2025, more than 2,500 stations in around 120 cities in 2026, and a long-term goal of 30,000 stations nationwide.
