DAF Trucks is gearing up for series production of its new fully electric truck range. Several leading Dutch transporters have already started using them and are giving their feedback.
Date: August 22, 2024Eindhoven, Netherlands- DAF Truck N.V., a commercial vehicle manufacturer, has advanced its role in the energy transition by launching a fully electric truck and expanding its zero-emission vehicle lineup. In 2023, the company opened a new assembly plant in Eindhoven for electric truck production. The New Generation DAF Electric vehicles, XD and XF models, offer up to 350 kW/480 hp and a zero-emission range of up to 500 km. Equipped with 2 to 5 LFP battery packs, these trucks set new standards for efficiency, safety, and comfort. DAF dealers now provide comprehensive charging solutions and driver training.
DAF is extensively testing the New Generation XD and XF Electric with the help of leading transporters who are putting the first vehicles on the road. Mr. Gerlof Oegema of Oegema Transport in Dedemsvaart, said, "We are covering almost 500 kilometers with our XD Electric on a single full charge. With an additional charge, we would be able to cover 1,000 kilometers a day, creating interesting opportunities for long-distance transport."
Mr. Ewout van Wijk, CEO of E. van Wijk Logistics in Giessen, said, "We still face some challenges with our on-site charging infrastructure, but the XF Electric is exceeding our expectations. The driver is particularly impressed with the truck's smooth handling, quiet and comfortable cab, and the immediate torque available when driving off."
Cornelissen Transport in Nijmegen has taken delivery of a DAF XD and a DAF XF Electric, which they are primarily using to supply supermarkets. The vehicles align perfectly with our ambition to switch to zero-emission transport. Mr. Peter Leegstraten, Manager of Purchasing & Innovation, said, “The design of these DAF trucks is ideal for urban areas. The large windscreen, extended belt lines, additional passenger-side window, and digital cameras provide excellent direct vision, and combined with the electric powertrain, they form the ideal solution for us."
