Leinfelden-Echterdingen/Bomporto, Italy- Daimler Buses is set to begin delivering 111 Units of modern Mercedes-Benz and Setra coaches to Busitalia Sita Nord S.r.l., the public transport subsidiary of Trenitalia SpA, which is part of Italy’s state railway company, Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane S.p.A. The buses will be delivered in three batches: 80 Mercedes-Benz Tourismo, 20 Tourismo M/3, and 11 Setra S 531 DT double-decker buses. Deliveries will start in June 2025 and continue through the end of the year. The entire contract, valued at €43 million, will be managed by Daimler Buses Italia.
The new fleet is designed to enhance Busitalia’s extensive operations, which currently include more than 3,000 buses. The focus of the new additions is on offering high levels of comfort, accessibility, safety, and innovation. Equipped with Euro VI diesel engines and automatic transmissions, the buses provide a smooth driving experience. The OM 470 engine in the Tourismo models delivers 315 kW (428 hp) and supports synthetic diesel (HVO) for reduced emissions and better sustainability.
All 111 vehicles come with a 10-year Omniplus maintenance contract to ensure reliable performance and continuous support. Additionally, each bus includes Daimler Buses’ latest Digital Services Package, which enables operators to monitor and manage fleet operations more efficiently. As part of a special initiative, Daimler Buses is offering this package free of charge for three years on diesel models and six years on electric models. Busitalia already uses digital services and will now expand its capabilities with the new buses.
Safety is a key highlight of this order. All buses are fitted with the latest generation of driver assistance systems, such as Active Brake Assist 6, Preventive Brake Assist 2, Sideguard Assist 2, Attention Assist, an alcohol tester for the driver, and the MirrorCam system in place of traditional exterior mirrors. Selected buses also feature 360-degree cameras and digital rear-view mirrors, significantly enhancing visibility and safety for both drivers and pedestrians.
Passenger comfort has been a major priority. All buses include air conditioning with antiviral filters for fast, hygienic air circulation. The Mercedes-Benz Tourismo buses offer ergonomic TravelStarEco seating with adjustable features and footrests. The standard Tourismo (12.3 meters) has 55 seats, while the longer Tourismo M/3 (13.12 meters) has up to 55 seats and features luxurious Luxline upholstery. Each is equipped with a wheelchair lift for enhanced accessibility.
The Setra S 531 DT double-decker buses, each nearly 14 meters long, are designed for high passenger volumes. They come with luxurious Voyage Plus reclining seats and footrests. Six of the eleven buses are configured for short-distance travel with a capacity of 81 passengers, while the remaining five long-distance models seat 70 and are equipped with a folding wheelchair ramp at the rear door. These double-deckers are powered by the OM 471 engine with 375 kW (510 hp).
All 111 buses are also equipped with a range of onboard features such as USB and 220V power outlets, LED reading lights and air vents at every seat, onboard Wi-Fi, refrigerators, and designated spaces for passengers with disabilities. The long-distance models additionally offer a toilet and a driver’s sleeping cabin.
With this order, Busitalia is reaffirming its commitment to modern, safe, and digitally connected public transport, while Daimler Buses continues to support operators with reliable products and innovative service solutions.
Mr. Stefano Giordani, President and Managing Director of Daimler Buses Italia, said, “Today we are celebrating a partnership that is a model for excellence in the industry, both in terms of numbers and strategic value.
