Wuhan, China, Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Company (DFN), a 50-50 joint venture between Dongfeng Motor Group and Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., has launched the all-new NX8, a mid-size electrified SUV developed specifically for Chinese customers. Introduced on April 8, the NX8 is the third model in Nissan’s N Series, following the N6 plug-in hybrid sedan and the N7 mid-size electric sedan.
Created under the concept of being “an ideal SUV for every family,” the NX8 is designed to deliver a strong mix of comfort, technology, and safety. It comes with 71 standard convenience, comfort, and safety features across all grades and is positioned in a price range of around 15.99 yuan to 20.99 yuan.
The new NX8 is offered with two electrified powertrain choices: a battery electric vehicle (EV) and a range-extended electric vehicle (REEV). The EV range includes the 580 Pro, 580 Max, and 650 Max, with a maximum driving range of up to 650 km. Built on an 800V architecture with ultra-fast 5C charging, it can regain about 300 km of range in just six minutes. The REEV lineup includes the 150 Pro, 150 Max, and 310 Max, delivering up to 310 km of pure electric range and a combined driving range of up to 1,450 km, along with fuel efficiency rated at 4.51 liters per 100 km during gasoline operation.
Comfort is a major focus for the NX8, with Nissan emphasizing that every seat is designed to feel like the best seat in the vehicle. The SUV features a 773-liter luggage compartment that can hold up to 35 suitcases, a bi-directional onboard refrigerator with a temperature range of -6°C to 55°C, and best-in-class rear-seat headroom of 1,285 mm, giving children enough room to stand and change clothes. It also includes a Pet Protection Mode that helps maintain cabin temperature, prevents accidental controls, and alerts the driver if a pet is left inside.
Among its standout comfort features are AI Zero Gravity Seat 2.0 with 25 massage and support airbags, an AI contactless airflow control system, motion sickness prevention technology 3.0, and power-reclining rear seats with ventilation, heating, and massage functions.
The NX8 also brings a strong set of infotainment and intelligent features. It is equipped with dual 15.6-inch displays, the latest Nissan OS 2.0, an AI voice assistant, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chipset with 256 GB of storage, and an augmented reality head-up display with a display size equivalent to around 63 inches. An automatic parking assist function further improves usability in tight parking conditions.
Safety has been given high priority in the NX8’s development. The SUV uses the Cloud Shield Battery 2.0 with CATL battery cells and has been tested against 146 safety criteria. It also benefits from 24-hour cloud-based monitoring for added reassurance. A driver assistance system jointly developed with Momenta works alongside the AR-HUD to reduce driver workload and improve long-distance driving confidence. In addition, the NX8 uses a steel-aluminum hybrid body structure with 2,000 MPa-class ultra-high-strength steel for strong crash safety, while its rear combination lamps use an industry-leading number of OLED lighting units to enhance visibility.
Sales of the battery electric NX8 models began on April 8, while deliveries of the range-extended versions are scheduled to begin progressively from mid-to-late May.
