Einbock Launches Innovative Cross-Ridge Hiller for Erosion
Einbock has launched the Cross-Ridge Hiller, a new implement mounted behind hoeing elements, for enhanced soil protection in row crops.
Date: April 30, 2025
Austria, Europe - Einbock GmbH., an agricultural machinery manufacturer, has unveiled its latest innovation, the Cross-Ridge Hiller. Designed as a smart addition to hoeing equipment, this new implement is engineered to be mounted behind each hoeing element and is particularly tailored for use in row crops like corn, sunflowers, and potatoes, typically spaced 50 to 80 cm (20–30 inches) apart.
The Cross-Ridge Hiller addresses a growing challenge faced by farmers worldwide soil erosion, especially on sloped or hilly terrain. By creating uphill-facing cross ridges between crop rows, the implement acts as a natural barrier, preventing the downhill runoff of soil and organic material. This not only preserves the field’s precious topsoil and humus layer but also ensures that rainfall is effectively retained in the root zone, directly benefiting the health and yield of the cultivated crops.
Mr. Philipp, Product Manager at Einbock, said, “Particularly in areas at risk of erosion, such as slopes, the cross ridges serve as a natural barrier to prevent soil and humus erosion. As a result, valuable water is retained for the cultivated crops and the precious humus remains on the field. Furthermore, crusts are effectively reduced, which promotes air exchange and thus plant development.”
The Cross-Ridge Hiller operates through a mechanically driven system powered by a tail wheel. This simple yet robust drive mechanism ensures consistent performance even under challenging field conditions. Farmers can fine-tune the size and shape of the ridges by choosing from a variety of cross-share widths. This customization allows the implement to be adapted to different soil types, crop row spacing, and levels of erosion risk.
This solution fits seamlessly with existing Einbock hoeing equipment, making it a versatile and cost-effective upgrade for farmers already using mechanical weeding technology. Its rear mounting position ensures that ridge formation follows immediately after weed removal, further enhancing soil protection and plant health in a single pass.
The Cross-Ridge Hiller offers more than just erosion control, it reduces soil crusting, improves air exchange, and promotes stronger root growth and nutrient uptake. By supporting both crop health and environmental stewardship, it helps farmers adopt more sustainable, regenerative practices without sacrificing productivity.
